Hello everyone,
I have a Malm bed from IKEA and I’m currently dealing with the problem of an uneven floor. Because of this, the legs of the bed don’t sit properly, which especially when getting up or moving around gives an unstable feeling and causes the bed to wobble slightly.
My question is: How can I stabilize a Malm bed on an uneven floor without affecting the appearance or functionality of the bed?
I have already thought about using transparent pads or small wooden shims under the legs, but I’d like to know if there are better, more permanent solutions. Maybe there are special products or techniques that work well?
Who has experience stabilizing beds like this on floors that aren’t completely level?
Thanks for your advice!

I recommend small rubber pads or felt glides that you stick under the bed legs. This idea is a good starting point, but to make a Malm bed truly stable on uneven floors in the long term, often more precision is needed.
My suggestion: First, use a spirit level to check how uneven each side of the bed is. Then, you can cut small shims from hard plastic, wood, or even metal. I recommend shims that are 1-3 mm (0.04–0.12 inches) thick, depending on the slope of the floor.
It is important to attach these shims with double-sided, strong adhesive tape to the bed legs to prevent them from shifting. Alternatively, height-adjustable furniture gliders that can be mounted on screw feet are a good option – IKEA offers replacement parts for some bed models that can be adjusted.
If the unevenness is greater, you should consider whether the floor can be leveled at that spot using a thin layer of leveling compound, but this is a more complex solution.
If you let me know the approximate height of the floor unevenness, I will gladly provide more precise recommendations.

How can I stabilize a Malm bed on an uneven floor without affecting the bed’s appearance or functionality? From a technical perspective, a combination of the following measures is recommended:
1. Height-adjustable furniture glides: These allow for precise adjustments by the millimeter and are visually discreet.
2. Non-slip pads: Rubber pads prevent slipping and contribute to overall stability.
3. Precise adjustment of shim thickness: Medium-thickness wood, plastic, or metal shims that exactly match the floor unevenness.
A durable and aesthetically pleasing solution is to use height-adjustable feet, which reduce the need for dirt-catching shims and ensure an even load distribution. Several DIY stores and IKEA itself offer such accessories.

I had a similar issue with my Malm bed and got these small, rotatable furniture gliders that you simply screw under the bed legs. They’re really practical: you just turn them in or out a bit until the bed is stable on the floor – all without using awkward wooden boards or felt scraps.
Honestly, in the end, it even looks neat and professional.
Sometimes less is more, especially when it comes to furniture stability 🙂
