Hello everyone,

I recently bought a MALM bed from IKEA and noticed that the floor in the room is quite uneven. When moving the bed, there is a slight wobble or rocking, which is obviously annoying over time. My question is: How can I effectively and permanently stabilize MALM beds on uneven floors?

I have considered using small leveling wedges or felt pads under the legs, but I’m not sure if that is enough or just a temporary fix. Are there any proven methods that any of you have tried, such as special underlays, screws, or modifications to the bed frame itself?

It is important to me that the stabilization is not just a short-term help but really robust so that the bed does not loosen again over time.

I look forward to tips, suggestions, or experiences, including technical explanations on why a particular method works well.

Are there any additional notes regarding the screws or load distribution that should be considered?

Yes, uneven floors can cause point loads at the structurally intended support points.

I recommend regularly checking the screw connections on the frame and tightening them if necessary. Even slight loosening can quickly lead to rattling noises or instability.

Adding metal brackets on the inside of the bed sides can help distribute the load more evenly and stabilize the structure in the long term.

This is really important, especially with Malm beds, which tend to become loose quickly due to constant wobbling.

Connecting the bed legs – To reduce lateral rocking, you can reinforce the legs using wooden or metal brackets.\

I think this is a great tip that many people overlook. Some time ago, I connected my bed legs with thin metal brackets, and now the frame no longer slides across the floor like a ship.

If you have some DIY skills, you can easily do this yourself.
