Hello everyone,

I am planning to install several IKEA Metod wall cabinets in my kitchen on a drywall surface. Since these cabinets will be quite heavy, I want to make sure the installation is stable and secure over the long term. My question is: How can I safely mount IKEA Metod wall cabinets on a wall made only of drywall?

Which fasteners and technical details should I consider? Are there specific anchors or wall plugs that are particularly suitable? Is it better to reinforce the wall internally or to use mounting frames?

I look forward to practical tips and experiences that will help ensure a secure and load-bearing installation without causing damage.

Thank you for the detailed explanations; I fully understand your points. I was also unsure whether the anchors in drywall would be sufficient since the cabinets will be fully loaded with dishes and supplies.

In my case, I attached a wooden batten behind the drywall, to which the mounting frame is then fixed. This not only feels stable but also gives me peace of mind that nothing will slip or damage the wall.

Additionally, I would recommend considering load distribution before installation – using multiple fastening points and distributing the load evenly.

For the screws, a length of at least 6 cm (2.4 inches) is recommended, with suitable wood thread or metal thread screws depending on the type of stud.

Thank you very much for the summary, it is very helpful! I have one more question: If I have metal studs behind the drywall, are 6 cm (2.4 inches) screws still sufficient? Are wood screws enough in that case, or should I use special sheet metal screws?

Also, I’m not clear on whether the thickness of the wooden battens used for reinforcement is important to safely support the weight of the Metod wall cabinets. I would prefer not to use battens that are too thin and might warp later.

Thanks again for the support; I really want to do everything correctly and avoid any risks.
