Hello everyone,

I am planning to mount Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets on my drywall. I am concerned about the load-bearing capacity and safety of the installation since drywall is naturally not as strong as solid walls. My question is: How can I securely and permanently mount Ikea Metod cabinets on drywall without damaging the wall or the furniture?

For your information: The walls consist of two layers of drywall installed consecutively, and in some areas, I can also screw into metal stud profiles.

I am especially interested in which fasteners work best (e.g., special anchors or mounting rails), the best way to distribute the load, and any additional tips for preparing the wall or preventing damage.

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

Before installation, be sure to locate the position of the metal stud profiles using a cable detector or metal sensors.

Exactly, identifying the metal profiles is essential for load distribution.

Additionally, I would recommend using screws with self-drilling tips, as they provide better penetration into metal studs.

If the load is too high, suitable steel brackets for reinforcement are a practical option, especially for heavier cabinets.

It is also advisable to calculate the total weight of the cabinets and plan the attachment points so that the allowable load capacity is not exceeded.

Cabinets on drywall?

- Always screw wooden battens into the metal studs
- Attach the cabinets to these battens
- Never screw directly into drywall only
- Hollow wall anchors are only suitable for light items

Otherwise, it will sag.
