ᐅ How do I safely mount Ikea Besta units on walls made of different building materials?

I want to securely mount my Ikea Besta shelving unit to the wall, but I have different types of walls at home: partly concrete, partly drywall (plasterboard), and areas with brickwork. My question is: what is the best way to mount the Besta so that it not only holds securely but also avoids damaging the wall materials? I am especially interested in choosing the right anchors and screws, as well as any tips for preparing and carrying out the installation on these different building materials. Does anyone have experience with mixed wall types like this or a step-by-step guide for mounting heavy furniture on such walls?

Precisely adjust the drill hole, drill holes matching the anchors, do not make them smaller or larger.

This is really crucial. I would add: measure beforehand to avoid electrical wires or pipes. Then check the wall for reinforcements, if possible.

Clean the mounting surfaces before drilling, remove dust. Always use proper hollow wall anchors with drywall; otherwise, nothing will hold.

It is important to consider the load capacity of anchors, especially for heavy furniture like the Besta.

I agree, but heavy furniture like the Besta usually isn’t a problem for the wall material as long as you’re not loading it with several hundred kilograms. An important point is whether the furniture is fully fixed to the wall or only attached at the top, which significantly increases stability.

What are your experiences with chemical anchors in brick?

Chemical anchors are reliable but often literally “too much” for Ikea furniture. I would only recommend them for very poor masonry or if you are storing very heavy loads.
