Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets in my apartment, but unfortunately the walls are not completely even. My question is: How can I securely install Ikea Metod cabinets on uneven walls so that the furniture stands stable and fits properly, without causing damage or problems later on?

I am especially looking for practical tips on how to level out the irregularities, how to securely fasten the cabinets to the wall, and any tools or materials that might be particularly helpful. If anyone has experience with similar situations, I would be very grateful for specific advice or best practices that work well in typical older buildings.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Hello DALESAN,

I recently worked on a similar project – the walls didn’t exactly cooperate for me either. Here are a few ideas that might help:

- Use long spirit levels and foam or wooden shims to align the cabinets as precisely as possible – that’s half the job.
- Adjust from the floor up: with uneven floors, it’s worth fitting the Metod cabinets with adjustable feet, so you can easily compensate for irregularities.
- For wall mounting, I recommend first checking the wall with a small spirit level and using spacer plates where needed to ensure the screws hold securely.

Sure, it sometimes requires patience – but with the right approach, it will work out! If you’d like, I can also share how I sealed everything with silicone sealant during my last installation to prevent any movement.

Best regards! 🙂

Hello DALESAN,

As you have already pointed out, the main challenge with uneven walls is to mount the cabinets securely and level. In general, I recommend the following approach:

- First, use a spirit level to identify the areas where the wall is most uneven.
- If necessary, use shims (e.g., wooden wedges or plastic washers) during installation to compensate for irregularities.
- Install adjustable feet under the cabinets to even out differences in the floor level.
- For wall mounting, choose suitable anchors and screws depending on the wall material to ensure the cabinets are securely fastened.

If you are working with drywall profiles, longer screws and appropriate anchors can help achieve a strong hold.

Don’t forget to connect the cabinets to each other firmly to increase stability and reduce movement.

Have you checked whether the wall is made of solid masonry or lightweight construction? This affects the choice of anchors and fastening methods.

This approach is important for the long-term durability of your kitchen.

It is recommended to:

- Take precise height and angle measurements with a spirit level before starting installation.
- Compensate for wall irregularities using wooden shims or adjustable pads.
- Make effective use of the Ikea adjustable feet that allow fine-tuning.
- Always connect the cabinets to each other after positioning to minimize potential movement.
- Securely fasten the cabinets to the wall using appropriate anchors and screws, taking the wall material into account.

A common method is to adjust the hinges and feet after wall mounting. Problems usually arise when cabinets are only fixed at a few points or when the weight is unevenly distributed.

If possible, it is also advisable to smooth the wall slightly before installation, depending on the building conditions.

Without additional floor or wall preparation, there is a risk of tipping or swaying cabinets, which can cause damage over time.
