Hello everyone, I hope you can help me: I have some Ikea Malm furniture (mainly dressers and nightstands) that I want to securely fix to a laminate floor. Since I want to be sure they don't slide easily, but at the same time avoid any permanent damage to my laminate, I am looking for proven methods to reliably and floor-friendly secure Malm furniture. What options are there to achieve a stable fixation without harming the laminate when removing the furniture later? I would appreciate any tips – including recommendations for specific products or mounting systems that work well. Thanks in advance!

The simplest option is anti-slip pads that are attached to the bottom of the furniture legs. These provide grip without damaging the laminate flooring. Alternatively, you can use furniture brackets with felt pads if stability is more important.

Good morning, mukar32, I’d like to address your question in more detail, as securing Malm furniture on laminate flooring involves several factors. First of all, it’s important to protect the floor, so avoid screws or strong adhesives that could leave residues or cause damage. Laminate is quite sensitive to concentrated pressure.

The most common method, as PRABAU already mentioned, is to stick anti-slip pads made of rubber or silicone under the furniture legs. These significantly increase friction; although they are not completely slip-proof, they usually prevent minor unwanted movements. Important: The pads should be self-adhesive but removable without leaving residue.

For those wanting extra security without drilling, it’s possible to use furniture brackets fixed to the wall to secure the cabinet. This effectively anchors the furniture and prevents tipping or shifting—ideal for larger Malm dressers.

If you want a permanent yet floor-friendly solution, there are special adhesive tapes that provide slip resistance and can be removed without residue. These come in various widths and firmness levels, such as 3M Dual Lock or thin hook-and-loop tape systems.

I’m curious about how smooth your laminate floor is and whether the furniture has tall legs or a flat base, as this greatly affects adhesion. Also important: load and usage—if the dresser is placed in a high-traffic area, stable securing methods should be used.

Honestly, I find this standard solution often overrated. Anti-slip pads are practical, but especially with Malm furniture that has a smooth bottom, these pads are sometimes not enough if, for example, the dresser stands on a slight incline. Then they still slide.

And what many forget: the adhesive on the pads can roughen the laminate surface over time and leave residue after removal.

Therefore, my provocative claim: if you want to be certain and stay flexible, you should rely more on wall mounts instead of depending on the too convenient adhesive solutions on the floor.

Or you can use floor protection mats that you place extensively under the furniture. This avoids both the risk of damage and shifting.

After all, laminate flooring is not a workshop floor where you can simply drill – the consequences are often worse than you think.

Hello everyone, I would like to provide a structured guide on how to securely attach Malm furniture while protecting laminate flooring:

1. Preparation: Clean the furniture from dust, and keep the laminate floor clean and dry. This ensures the best adhesion.

2. Attach anti-slip pads: There are rubber pads with a thin self-adhesive layer. It is important to choose products labeled as “residue-free removable.” Place them under the feet or the underside of the dresser, depending on the contact surface.

3. Wall mounting: Highly recommended for larger dressers, as it prevents tipping and sliding in everyday use. Ikea offers suitable brackets and mounting kits specifically for Malm, which can be attached to the wall with minimal damage. Be sure to use wall anchors that match the wall type (drywall, concrete, etc.).

4. Use felt pads: In areas where protecting the laminate floor is important, felt pads serve as an underlay and can slightly reduce sliding, although they are less slip-resistant than rubber pads.

5. Alternative adhesive tapes: For smooth surfaces, double-sided adhesive tapes compatible with laminate floors work well. It is advisable to test these on small areas first.

Summary: For maximum stability and laminate protection, I recommend combining anti-slip pads with wall mounting. This securely fixes the dresser without damaging the laminate and allows easier rearrangement later.

If you want to avoid drilling into the wall, pads and adhesive tapes offer a good, though less secure, alternative.
