Hello everyone, I am planning a move soon and want to transport my IKEA Malm furniture safely. My question is: How can I secure Malm furniture during moves to prevent damage such as loose fittings, scratches, or even pieces coming apart? I am especially interested in practical tips for securing drawers, doors, and ensuring the overall stability of the furniture while carrying it and inside the moving truck. Are there any proven methods or special accessories that work particularly well? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I can only agree with that. Additionally, I recommend tightening the screws firmly without over-tightening – the material in Malm is mainly particleboard, so caution is needed to avoid damaging the threads.

Thanks cassandra for the tip! Are there any specific tools you especially recommend for tightening the screws on Malm? A cordless drill is convenient, but I’m concerned it might tighten them too much.

Yes, actually: I recommend using a good quality Phillips screwdriver with an ergonomic handle for fine adjustment. This allows you to tighten the screws gradually and gives you better feedback on the resistance.

Cordless screwdrivers are great for quick assembly, but as you mentioned, they can easily over-tighten chipboard. If you use a cordless screwdriver, set the torque as low as possible and proceed carefully.

Also, with Malm furniture, it’s better to check and retighten the screws more often rather than tightening everything with full force right away.

I always remove drawers, wrap them with bubble wrap and tape. Check screws before transportation and cover furniture with blankets to protect against scratches.

Remove drawers, pack furniture carefully, lightly tighten screws, and secure everything in the truck with ratchet straps. This way, you can avoid damage.
