I am planning to secure my Ikea Malm bed on tiled floors, as it often slips on the smooth surface. The question is: How can I safely fix Malm furniture to tiled floors without damaging either the tiles or the furniture? It is especially important to me that the solution is long-lasting, easy to implement, and does not leave any visible marks on the furniture or the floor. Does anyone have experience or tips on suitable materials or fastening methods that have proven effective? For example, special anti-slip materials, screws with anchors, or other systems? Thanks in advance!

For securely fastening Malm furniture on tiled floors, I recommend using only removable and tile-friendly methods, as drilling can easily damage the tiles.

1. Non-slip mats made of rubber or silicone are effective bases. They prevent slipping without the need for adhesives or drill holes.

2. Furniture glides with adhesive pads, designed specifically for smooth floors, distribute weight and provide stability.

3. Adhesive pads or double-sided tapes that can be removed without residue are suitable for lighter furniture pieces, but caution is advised for beds with higher loads.

Screws and wall plugs should only be used if you are willing to risk damaging the tiles when removing them. The optimal solution is a combination of non-slip material and, if possible, additional wall fastening.

That’s a very good question that many DIY enthusiasts face, especially with smooth and delicate tiled floors. Based on my experience and discussions with others, I recommend the following:

First, it’s important to distinguish between securing the furniture to the floor and securing it to the wall. For example, the Malm bed is often simply placed on the floor and can easily slide on smooth tiles.

A practical way to prevent slipping is to use special non-slip mats or pads made of neoprene or rubber. These can be placed under the bed legs and provide good grip without the need for adhesives or drilling into the floor or furniture. They are available at hardware stores.

If you want to secure the furniture further, there are clamp or bracket fasteners that attach both to the wall and the furniture at the same time. It’s important to pay attention to the load capacity of the wall plugs and to use appropriate tile drill bits.

To protect the tiles, avoid drilling whenever possible or proceed very carefully, as tiles can easily crack.

In summary:
- Use non-slip mats/pads under the legs
- Secure furniture additionally with wall brackets (drill carefully)
- Avoid permanent adhesives that leave residues

If you also have slip-resistant glides under the furniture legs, that is often sufficient, especially when the weight is distributed over multiple points.

I hope this helps!

I agree with that. Just buy non-slip pads, place them underneath, done. No risky drilling, no gluing.

I think this is good advice, but I understand that many people are afraid of drilling into tiles. I had the same concern and was nervous about cracking the tiles. In the end, with careful use of a tile drill bit plus a drill stop, it worked without any damage.

If you find that too risky, definitely rely on heavy non-slip mats and make sure all furniture legs have even contact with the floor. For me, these measures quickly improved the feeling of stability.

Also important: check that the furniture sits evenly—uneven seats or legs can cause slipping very quickly.

I hope you find a solution that feels right for you! 🙂
