Hello everyone, I have a fairly specific question: I would like to securely and stably fix my Ikea Malm furniture to a wooden floor, as otherwise it feels a bit wobbly to me. What options are there to secure the furniture without damaging the floor so that it won’t slip or tip over? I’m thinking of practical methods that provide stability but are reversible in case I want to move the furniture later. Maybe someone has tips on choosing fastening materials or preparing the floor or the furniture? I would be very grateful for any advice on suitable materials or steps!

Hey Monroelo63, it’s great that you want to stabilize your Malm furniture! 🙂 For wooden floors, I recommend double-sided floor protection adhesive pads that prevent furniture from sliding. Additionally, there are furniture corner fasteners that allow you to lightly secure the furniture to the floor. It’s important to use high-quality pads that don’t leave residue or damage the floor. You can also use anti-slip mats underneath; they provide excellent grip and are reversible. This also protects the floor – and setting everything up becomes really enjoyable!

For a secure attachment to a wooden subfloor, double-sided specialty tape for carpets is recommended. Alternatively, you can fix furniture brackets to the back of the furniture using wood screws and secure them to the floor with adhesive pads. Important: Do not use nails or screws directly into the floor!

For securing Malm furniture on wooden floors, I recommend a combination of anti-slip pads and, if necessary, floor bracket fasteners that do not permanently penetrate the floor. Material compatibility is important: special felt glides or rubber pads protect the surface. Screw anchors in the wooden floor are only advisable if the floor structure allows it and no insulation is damaged.

I can understand that this is a difficult question – I once had a similar issue with a Malm desk. What helped me were these non-slip rubber furniture pads that you stick under the furniture legs. This makes everything much more stable, and I felt safer. However, I was also concerned about potential damage to the wooden floor. Does anyone have experience whether these pads really leave no marks?

It’s great that you’re thinking about the wooden floor! 🙂 From my own experience, I can also recommend rubber pads, preferably thicker ones, which stabilize the furniture and protect the floor. I equipped my Malm dresser this way and haven’t had any damage after months—it’s rock solid! If you want extra security, use felt glides together with rubber pads; this provides excellent stability and further protects the floor.
