Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of securely mounting my Ikea Platsa cabinet on a significantly uneven wall. The wall has various areas with strong irregularities—some with height differences of up to 2 cm (0.8 inches). My specific question is: What methods or tools would you recommend to ensure a safe and stable installation without the cabinet wobbling or having poor support? Which anchors or additional materials should I use, and is it worthwhile to install mounting rails to compensate for the unevenness? I look forward to your practical tips and experiences!

Hello nonkla,
your challenge is quite common and requires some care to ensure the mounting is really secure. For uneven walls, I often recommend first identifying the highest points and then working with leveling measures. To compensate for irregularities of up to 2 cm (0.8 inches), you can use wooden wedges or special mounting spacers that are screwed between the wall and the cabinet support.
It is important that the mounting holes are placed correctly. It’s best to use heavy-duty anchors suitable for the wall type (concrete, brick, drywall). For very uneven walls, mounting rails (e.g., universal rails) can help: first attach the rails to the wall, then hang the cabinet on them. This allows better leveling and safely distributes the entire load.
Additionally, you should check whether the wall is structurally sound. In some cases, additional fastening to the ceiling makes sense. If you like, I can explain in more detail how to install mounting rails and position the wedges correctly.

Hey nonkla,
you want to securely attach your Platsa to that uneven wall? Then precision is your best friend! I recommend using mounting rails to easily create a neat, straight frame on slanted walls. The rails act like the backbone of your cabinet—providing stability and easily compensating for uneven surfaces with the right spacers.
You know, those small wedges are like invisible helpers that make everything perfectly level. This way, your Platsa stays firmly in place without any wobbling or tilting. Give it a try, and remember: safety is always the best design! 😉

Thanks in advance for the helpful responses! I’ve added a few more details: The wall is made of old brick masonry, partially covered with rough plaster, which in some areas has flaked off. I’m concerned that the substrate may not be ideal everywhere for heavy-duty anchors. Should I install some kind of substructure first, for example, a sturdy wooden board fixed to the stronger parts of the wall, and then mount the cabinet to that? What are your thoughts?
