Hello everyone,

I am planning to install several Ikea Pax wardrobes suspended from the ceiling in my bedroom to make better use of the space and increase stability. My question is: How can I securely and permanently attach Ikea Pax wardrobes to the ceiling without risking them falling or causing damage to the ceiling?

I have already considered wall mounting, but part of my room is open to the sloped roof, so some wardrobes cannot be fully supported against the wall. Therefore, I am thinking about a ceiling framework or special brackets.

I have been considering which materials and fasteners are best suited (for example, heavy-duty anchors, metal brackets, support profiles) and how to best distribute the loads. What should I keep in mind when mounting to a concrete ceiling? Does hanging installation involve more effort in assembly and maintenance?

I would appreciate any tips, recommendations, and experiences with similar constructions, especially if there are any specific Ikea accessories designed for this purpose.

Thank you in advance!

However, I am unsure whether the plexiglass back panels and the thin side panels of the Pax cabinets can withstand the weight and the upward pulling forces, or if I should reinforce the frames in some way.

This is a very important point that is often overlooked. The thin side panels and the back panel are designed for standard wall mounting and vertical loads (cabinet standing on the floor) but not for upward pulling forces.

I would recommend:

- Installing a hanging structure made of metal profiles or sturdy wooden battens inside the cabinet frame to reinforce the mounting points.
- Avoiding fastening the hangers directly to the thin side panels; instead, use a crossbeam above or at the back to carry the load.
- If necessary, completely removing the back panel to install a robust frame made of metal or plywood panels.
- Adding additional diagonal braces to prevent twisting.

Also, make sure to plan the attachment points of the ceiling structure in a way that creates a reliable load-bearing system that evenly distributes the weight.

If you like, I can prepare a sketch for you, which will make the implementation much easier.

Wow, that sounds like a really exciting project! 😍

I think it’s great that you’re putting so much thought into it and thoroughly researching. This not only ensures stability but also protects you and your beautiful furniture!

A little motivation: with the right preparation and, for example, sturdy C-channels, you can definitely pull this off! Remember to always work slowly and carefully, and it will last in the long run.

And if it doesn’t work out immediately, don’t give up – that’s normal with custom solutions! Good luck!

How can cabinets be effectively reinforced internally, if necessary?

Install cross braces made of wood or metal.

Replace the back panel with a stronger board if needed.

Attach eyelets or metal plates at the hanging points.

Distribute weight as evenly as possible.
