Hello everyone, I am planning to install several IKEA Metod wall cabinets on drywall in my apartment. My specific question is: How can I securely mount IKEA Metod wall cabinets on drywall so that both the weight of the cabinets and their contents are reliably supported over time without damaging the drywall? Which fasteners are best suited for this – for example, special anchors, mounting rails, or additional reinforcements behind the drywall? I would appreciate detailed advice on the procedure, necessary materials, and any common mistakes to avoid. Thanks in advance!

As a supplement: If you cannot reach load-bearing studs in drywall and creating an opening for a cross brace is not possible, I recommend using special heavy-duty metal anchors (e.g., toggle bolts or hollow wall anchors) that provide high load capacity. Make sure the anchors are fully expanded in the anchoring area. For IKEA Metod wall cabinets, the anchors should have a minimum load capacity of 50 kg (110 lbs) per anchor to ensure safety.

It is also important to distribute the fastening points evenly along the mounting rail to avoid point loads.

Screwing directly into the studs is the best solution. If that is not possible, use strong hollow wall metal anchors, with at least three per cabinet. Important: adjust the height precisely and tighten the screws securely.

Metod cabinets on drywall: It is better to use more fastening points with metal anchors, as this distributes the load more effectively. Also, never rely solely on plastic anchors, as they do not support the load permanently.
