Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of my new IKEA Metod kitchen in my apartment, which has concrete walls. Since the Metod cabinets are quite solid and heavy, I want to make sure that the mounting to the concrete wall is really stable and durable.
Does anyone have experience with the best way to fix IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete walls?
I have already thought about suitable anchors and screws but wonder if there are specific recommendations for types of anchors that work especially well with concrete, and if there are other important points to consider during installation to prevent damage to the cabinets or them coming loose.
I would also appreciate tips on the ideal drill bit size and whether any special preparation should be done before drilling.
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you don’t tighten the screws too much when fastening, you avoid causing cracks in the concrete anchors.Exactly! I once almost slammed a cabinet onto the wall because I thought “tight is always better” – and then I ended up with small hairline cracks in the concrete. Since then, I prefer to be gentle, and you can really feel when it’s enough.
And another tip: use slightly longer screws or washer-head screws, so the force is spread over a larger area and the molding doesn’t warp.
Thank you all very much for the detailed and helpful contributions!
I will now work with stainless steel heavy-duty anchors and suitable screws, carefully prepare the hammer drill, and thoroughly clear out the holes. I will make sure not to overtighten the screws.
If I come across any special issues, I will gladly get back to you.
It’s good to hear that Metod kitchen cabinets can generally be mounted very securely to concrete when done correctly.
Thanks again – you’ve been a great help!

You’re welcome, daisy.
If you like, a small additional tip:
- Check after a few days to see if the screw connections still feel tight. Due to slight settling, you might need to retighten them.
- For especially heavy components or appliances (e.g., oven, range hood), you may want to install extra brackets or reinforcements.
Otherwise, it will definitely be a very solid and secure construction as long as you keep these points in mind!
Best of luck moving forward.
