Hello everyone,

I am facing the challenge of securely mounting IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets on a noticeably uneven wall. The wall is neither fully flat nor consistently straight, which makes attaching the cabinets using the standard brackets difficult. It seems that the usual methods (directly screwing into the wall or using the supplied wall hangers) will hardly work or only work to a limited extent because the cabinets might not hang flush or could visibly wobble due to irregular fastening.

I have considered ways to compensate for the unevenness—such as using spacer blocks or special brackets—but I am unsure which approach is recommended for Metod cabinets and how to ensure both stability and a clean appearance.

Does anyone have experience, practical tips, or professional advice on this, especially when the wall is significantly uneven and not just slightly irregular? Are there special anchors, fasteners, or techniques I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your help!

As a supplement to the previous posts and to promote a clear and objective approach, I recommend the following structured procedure for mounting IKEA Metod cabinets on uneven walls:

- First, measure the wall precisely using a spirit level and a plumb line to identify any irregularities in both horizontal and vertical directions.
- Install the mounting brackets so they bear the main load. Use spacers or shims behind the brackets to adjust for wall unevenness.
- Choose anchors according to the wall material: for solid brick, use heavy-duty expansion anchors; for hollow brick, wing anchors may be appropriate.
- Connect the cabinets to each other with joining brackets to distribute the load evenly.
- If the wall irregularity is too large (>10 mm (0.4 inches)), it may be advisable to attach an OSB board or similar panel to the wall as a flat base for the cabinets. This board should be mounted flush and level.
- Before the final installation, consider mounting a small test cabinet to check stability and hold.

This approach takes technical details into account and minimizes the risk of wobbling or needing rework.

Another very effective method, especially for old walls with uneven surfaces, is to install a mounting board made of high-quality multiplex plywood or OSB in front of the wall. This board is secured to the wall with heavy-duty anchor bolts and precisely leveled.

Here is my step-by-step suggestion:

- Measure the wall accurately using a laser or spirit level, paying special attention to deep unevenness.
- Cut a sturdy board (at least 18 mm (0.7 inches) thick, preferably multiplex plywood) to size.
- Anchor the board to a solid substrate through the wall fixing using long, strong anchor bolts (at least 6–8 fixing points depending on the size).
- If necessary, use thick spacer washers behind the board to compensate for irregularities—secure everything with wedges and clamps.
- Then mount the cabinet bracket system precisely onto the board’s surface—this creates a perfectly level base for the cabinets.
- Hang the cabinets on the brackets as planned, and additionally connect them to each other to ensure overall stability.
- Don’t forget to apply threadlocker to all screws, especially on potentially unstable walls, to prevent loosening.

The advantage of this method is that, although it requires more effort and materials, you won’t have issues with wobbly cabinets later, and you achieve a visually perfect line. This is particularly important for kitchen furniture, as otherwise doors may close poorly or stresses may build up.

Are there any questions about the specific materials or the choice of anchors?
