Hello everyone,
I plan to securely and permanently attach my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe to the wall. Although the IKEA assembly kit includes dowels and brackets, I want to ensure the mounting is stable and minimizes the risk of tipping.
I have a few questions where I would appreciate your experience and advice:
- Which type of anchors and screws are best depending on the wall type (e.g., concrete, drywall, brick)?
- How many mounting points should be used at a minimum?
- Are there any special tips for properly aligning the wardrobe and making it tip-resistant?
- Should additional precautions be taken, especially if there are children in the household?
I look forward to your knowledgeable answers and any advice on mistakes to avoid. Thank you in advance!

In addition to the previous answer:
Many people underestimate how important the proper wall condition is. Especially with drywall, you need to be very careful. Simple anchors are often not sufficient.
For the Brimnes, I recommend thoroughly checking the connection to the wall hook. Sometimes the cabinet doesn’t sit perfectly flush, so you may need to use washers or small spacers to ensure the load is distributed evenly.
Also: retighten the screws after a few days. Sometimes the anchors settle slightly.

The safest approach is to work with load-bearing walls that have at least two fastening points and to choose quality anchors suitable for the wall type.
For brick masonry, chemical injection anchors are an alternative when maximum load capacity is required, although they are usually not necessary for home use.
The IKEA mounting kit is generally good, but as mentioned: when working with drywall (plasterboard), be sure to use cavity anchors according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Important: Before installation, measure the position accurately, mark the height, and level it using a spirit level.
Additional locking mechanisms on the furniture itself increase safety and prevent tipping during everyday use.

Great to see so many useful tips here!
I’d like to add: If possible, use a second person during installation, especially when holding and securing parts. This makes the work much easier and prevents risks from unintended tipping.
And yes, it’s definitely worth regularly checking the fastenings! This keeps the Brimnes securely in place and lets you sleep peacefully 🙂

A common mistake is using only one fastener, which increases the risk of tipping over. That was exactly my concern. I was considering installing just one bracket in the center at the top since the IKEA set only comes with two. Now I will definitely install several attachment points.

Retighten the screws after a few days. Thanks, I didn’t know that. I will make sure to plan for that.
Best regards and thanks for the helpful comments!
