Hello everyone,
I recently purchased some Ikea Brimnes furniture, including dressers and shelves, and now I am facing the challenge of securing them safely to the wall. Since the furniture is relatively tall and heavy, I want to make sure they are really stable and there is no risk of tipping over, especially because there are small children in my household.
Are there any specific tips or recommendations for attaching the Brimnes series? What type of wall anchors or screws work best for concrete walls? Is there anything special to consider when installing the safety rails or brackets that Ikea usually provides? Additionally, I would like to know whether the built-in mounting holes should be used directly or if it is better to add extra brackets afterwards.
I appreciate all advice, especially if someone has practical experience with the Brimnes series and can explain how to secure the furniture safely while preserving the material. Thank you!

Are there any special tips or recommendations for securing the Brimnes series?Well, I secured my Brimnes dresser to the wall using the included brackets – that’s usually enough. It’s important to use the right wall anchors for your wall type. Heavy-duty anchors work well for concrete or brick walls.

Just measure carefully, drill straight, screw in – and don’t forget to use a spirit level, otherwise it might wobble.
If you have children at home, better not take any risks – I always put in some extra care to make sure everything is rock solid. Stay calm, you’ll manage! 😉

Are there any specific tips or recommendations for securing the Brimnes series? What type of anchors or screws are best suited for concrete walls? To cover the topic thoroughly: The Brimnes series from Ikea usually includes brackets or safety kits that are installed on the back of the furniture. It is important to use heavy-duty anchors for concrete walls — these ensure the required load-bearing capacity. Anchors of about 10–12 mm (0.4–0.5 inches) diameter with appropriately strong screws (for example, 6 mm (0.24 inches) diameter) are advisable.
Recommended tools and materials:
- Rotary hammer drill with a suitable concrete drill bit for pre-drilling
- Heavy-duty anchors (metal expansion anchors or high-quality nylon anchors)
- Stainless steel or galvanized screws, at least 50 mm (2 inches) long

Is there anything special I should pay attention to when installing the safety rails or brackets that Ikea usually supplies?Yes, definitely:
- Screw directly and precisely into the wall; otherwise, the system will loosen over time
- For multiple fixing points, distribute the forces evenly
- Secure safety rails firmly to the furniture from the back; otherwise, everything will wobble
To make sure everything holds properly, you should first identify your wall type precisely (e.g., using a concrete nail tester or a rotary hammer drill test). If you want the furniture to be permanently supported on the wall rather than just fixed, maximize contact and consider adding a few extra floor supports or wall molding strips. What exactly is your wall made of? I can provide a more detailed assessment based on that.

- The Brimnes furniture has pre-drilled mounting holes, which should be used as standard.
- For concrete walls, heavy-duty anchors of the appropriate size are recommended, e.g., 10 mm (0.4 inch) diameter.
- Black cavity anchors are suitable for drywall but not for concrete.
- Screws should be at least 6 mm (0.24 inch) thick and about 50 mm (2 inches) long to ensure sufficient support.
- Before installation, use a spirit level to ensure the brackets are aligned horizontally.
As an additional recommendation, for taller furniture pieces, use a second level of securing, such as clamp strips or extra wall brackets, to minimize the risk of tipping. Make sure to fully embed the anchors in the wall and distribute the load evenly. Deep drilled holes and anchoring in load-bearing material are essential.

I can fully understand how important safety is to you with the Brimnes furniture, especially with children in the house.
I also had concerns when I assembled the dresser for the first time. What helped me was using the Ikea screws and dowels but also securing the furniture firmly to the wall—not only with the provided brackets but additionally at other points. I drilled carefully and checked the wall to avoid any cracks.
It was also helpful to regularly check whether everything stays tight, especially during the first weeks after installation. If in doubt, I would rather tighten screws again or add a second safety fix. Safety comes first!
