Hello everyone, I want to secure my shelves against slipping and am looking for a reliable solution. So far, the shelves just rest loosely on the supports and tend to move or even tip when removing items.

It is a classic shelving system with perforated metal supports and adjustable shelves. The shelves are quite heavy, partly loaded with books, and should hold firmly and securely in place without needing to be screwed or glued, to maintain adjustability.

Does anyone have experience with effective methods or helpful aids that prevent shelves from shifting or slipping out? Are there specific pads, clamps, or profile types that have proven effective? It is especially important that the securing method is discreet and leaves no residue whenever possible.

I look forward to tips and practical advice, thanks in advance!

Hello, I use rubber pads between the shelf board and the bracket in such cases. They provide enough friction to prevent slipping without the need to screw anything down. Alternatively, small metal clips that fit into the holes of the perforated sheet metal are also helpful.

This is a practical method, but its effectiveness depends on the surface materials and the load.

A usually more effective solution are shelf supports with locking mechanisms or special securing clips that hook into the shelf hole system. These reliably prevent the shelves from sliding sideways.

Additionally, there are anti-slip mats made of plastic or foam that can be placed on the shelf supports. They are often thin enough not to affect height adjustment and can be removed without leaving any residue.

Finally, it should be mentioned that for particularly heavy loads, positive connections such as screwing or using brackets remain the safest option, even though they limit flexibility.

Shelf supports with locking mechanism or special safety clips

A clear description is important here: There are many systems that use small tabs or hooks which snap into the perforated grid when the shelf is inserted, preventing it from slipping. Especially with perforated metal shelves, it is important to choose the right supports because not all provide the same level of security.

In addition to clips and locks, for light to medium loads, small plastic strips or foam rubber can be used along the edges to provide extra protection against lateral movement. These are inexpensive, unobtrusive, and offer a good solution with some friction if you do not want to modify the shelving.

If the shelves are very slippery, a slotted profile placed under the shelves is often effective. This profile fits into the holes of the frame and ensures vertical spacing and lateral stabilization. Installation is residue-free and can be done within a few minutes.

Finally: For those who do not want to fix the shelves permanently, the mentioned solutions with clips and friction materials are the best choice. If the adjustable mechanism needs to remain functional, this is often the only practical option.
