Hello everyone,

I have some IKEA Besta furniture pieces at home that tend to wobble slightly or sometimes even tilt a bit, despite being assembled correctly. This issue is especially noticeable with taller cabinets, particularly when they are moved or loaded.

I am interested in how to systematically and securely stabilize these furniture pieces against wobbling or tipping. Are there specific anchors that should be used? Is it necessary to attach the furniture to the wall, or are there floor-based options as well? What about adding internal reinforcements?

Since it is important to me that the furniture is not only stable but also secured with as little damage to walls or floors as possible, I look forward to your experiences and recommendations! Which methods have worked best for you, and what should be avoided?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey Luisgau,

great that you brought up this topic! 😊 I had the same issue with my Besta shelves, but don’t worry: there are a few really good tips to help make your furniture stable and prevent tipping!

- First, make sure to follow the assembly instructions carefully and tighten all screws properly, even if it’s a bit annoying.
- Second, IKEA often includes wall brackets that should definitely be used to secure the furniture to the wall – this makes a huge difference in stability!
- You can also put small felt or rubber pads under the feet to prevent slipping and reduce wobbling.
- For extra safety, you can install small corner braces inside as additional reinforcement.

Don’t stress, it’s totally manageable! Don’t get discouraged – grab the screws and good luck! 😊

Hello Luisgau,

you’ve raised an important topic, as wobbly or tipping furniture is not only uncomfortable but can also pose a safety risk, especially if there are small children in the household.

First of all, it is definitely recommended to always secure the Besta units to the wall. IKEA usually provides special brackets or metal fixtures that can either be clamped onto the back panel or attached at the top, then screwed into the wall using anchors. This reliably prevents tipping.

Alternatively, you can also use connecting fittings or connectors between multiple units if you have several modules placed side by side. This reduces overall movement.

A level, hard floor surface and non-slip mats under the furniture also add to the stability. If the furniture is on an uneven floor, adjustable feet can be used for fine-tuning.

If you prefer not to have visible wall fixings, well-fitting reinforcements or shelves inside the units secured with high-quality screws and brackets can help. However, wall mounting remains the most effective method.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

That is true, but I believe it’s also important to consider whether wall mounting is the best solution for every Besta piece of furniture. Especially with older walls or lightweight drywall, the included anchors often don’t hold reliably over time.

Many people simply rely on the supplied screws and brackets without checking the load-bearing capacity of the wall. In the worst case, this can cause the furniture and its contents to tip over under stress.

Therefore, I always recommend assessing the type of wall before installation and, if necessary, using special heavy-duty anchors or alternative securing methods. The internal reinforcements of the furniture should also not be underestimated.

By the way: Ground-level stabilization aids, such as sturdy base plates or so-called anti-tip floor clamps, could be a good supplement that doesn’t require wall mounting.

I think it’s worth taking a more thorough approach here instead of blindly following IKEA’s recommendations.

Wall mounting with the supplied brackets is mandatory. Screw in the adjustable feet and adjust them on uneven floors. Non-slip pads provide additional support. Floor-mounted stabilization is not IKEA standard, but it is possible using base plates.
