Hello everyone, I hope you can help me. I want to replace the drawer hinges on my IKEA Malm dressers because some of them are a bit loose and no longer operate smoothly.

Specifically, I am looking for instructions on how to remove these hinges and which replacement parts fit best.

Are there any special tools I absolutely need, and what is the best way to proceed without damaging the drawer?

If anyone has experience with purchasing original parts or alternatives, I would also appreciate tips regarding quality and compatibility.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Pull the drawer fully out to the stop. Then press the release clips (usually two on each side). Lift the drawer up or down off the rail.

Unscrew the hinges using a Phillips screwdriver. Use original replacement parts from IKEA.

No special tools required.

I also had the problem of loose drawer hinges with Malm dressers. My experience: the IKEA original hinges fit best because they are precisely manufactured and easy to replace.

Alternative hinges from Amazon or eBay can be cheaper, but they are often less durable and don’t fit exactly. This caused increased wear for me.

I also recommend checking the drawer slide after replacement and, if necessary, applying some WD-40 or a specific lubricant. This helps ensure longer durability and smooth operation.

Pull the drawer fully out. Press the clips on the sides. Lift the drawer off the steel runners. Loosen the screws of the hinges. Insert the new hinge and screw it tight.

Use original parts, they fit perfectly. Done.
