Hello everyone, I need your expertise: What is the best way to repair cracked wooden or particleboard bed side panels from a Malm bed? I noticed that the side panel on my IKEA Malm bed is cracked near the bottom, probably due to constant stress or an impact. The surface is painted, and I would like to carry out the repair in a way that maintains stability and makes the repair as invisible as possible. Which materials, adhesives, or maybe wood filler do you recommend, and what is the exact procedure to reglue or reinforce the bed sides? I am fairly handy, but I lack a clear plan and would also appreciate tips for the finish. Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions!

How can I best repair cracked Malm bed side panels? I have had good results using wood filler combined with glue.
First, fill the cracks, then sand after it dries, and finally apply glue.
This way, the surface becomes smooth and stable again.

Wood filler combined with glue\ I have tried that as well, but you should make sure the filler is suitable for the expected load. There are special PU fillers that cure harder than regular wood filler. Also, after everything is dried and sanded, I recommend applying a thin layer of paint or clear varnish to make the surface resistant again. Otherwise, moisture can get in and the problem might return. Finally, don’t be too impatient—adhesive and filler curing times are important for a long-lasting repair. Good luck!Similar topics
