Hello everyone,

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed several small scratches and minor damages on my Ikea Besta furniture. They are particularly noticeable on the white lacquered fronts. Now, I am specifically looking for proven methods to either make these scratches invisible or at least significantly disguise them. I am especially interested in practical tips on how to apply treatments and which materials or products have worked well.

It would also be helpful to know how to approach different types of damage—for example, superficial scratches in the lacquer versus small dents or scuffs on the edges.

I would appreciate any experiences or recommendations that can help restore the furniture’s appearance without needing to replace it completely.

Thanks in advance!

There are several effective methods for repairing scratches and minor damage on Ikea Besta furniture.

- For superficial scratches on painted surfaces, special furniture touch-up pens or repair kits that match the Besta finishes are recommended. These fill in the scratches and make them less noticeable.

- For slightly deeper damage, especially on edges, using color-matched wax sticks or repair palettes is advisable. These can be applied to the damaged area with a spatula or soft cloth.

- For matte surfaces, fine sandpaper (grit 1000+) followed by polishing with a specialized polishing compound can help smooth out minor imperfections.

- It is important to clean the surface thoroughly and let it dry completely before starting the repair to ensure optimal adhesion of the repair materials.

- Aggressive chemical cleaners should be avoided, as they can further damage the paint.

These methods generally allow for a clean and durable repair without much effort or having to replace furniture parts.

I can easily understand how frustrating it is when your beautiful Besta furniture suddenly gets scratched. It has happened to me as well, and at first, I had no idea how to best handle it.

I can only confirm this—I used such a repair pen and was really surprised at how well it can conceal the scratches. However, patience is important—you should apply several thin layers and allow each to dry thoroughly in between.

At first, I was unsure if it would look good since the wax filling can be somewhat visible. But if you carefully polish the area afterward, the result looks quite natural.

If anyone is uncertain: it helped me to test on an inconspicuous spot first. This also reduces the fear of making things worse. While not every damage can be fixed perfectly, it can at least be noticeably improved.

Don’t be discouraged—it’s definitely worth trying these small repairs yourself!

Hello everyone,

I would like to share a few additional tips based on my experience with Besta furniture and similar products:

- With white surfaces, it is especially important to use a repair marker or wax in the correct shade. If you are unsure, you can also ask at the IKEA store or at a specialist retailer for matching repair kits.

- Minor dents or scuffs can be carefully smoothed after applying wax or color markers using a very fine sanding pad (grit 2000 or higher) to achieve as smooth a surface as possible.

- Finally, I always recommend gently rubbing the treated area with a soft, clean cloth and furniture polish (preferably silicone-free). This restores the shine and protects the repaired spot.

- For severe damage such as chipped edges or peeling veneers, replacing the affected front panels can sometimes be the better option. Even with careful repair, the appearance might still be compromised.

- In general, it is important not to use sharp or abrasive cleaners on the furniture, as they usually make the damage worse.

In summary: Small scratches and damages can be well managed if you use the right technique and appropriate materials. This helps keep IKEA Besta furniture looking nice longer and saves you from larger expenses for replacement parts.
