Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors. Some of the doors are slightly warped, causing them not to close properly and leaving gaps in some cases. This mainly affects the doors made of MDF with a foil finish. The deformation is usually visible at the lower corner, where the door appears slightly bulged. My question is: what is the best way to repair these warped doors without having to replace them completely? Are there proven methods to reverse such warping, and if so, what is the recommended procedure? I would greatly appreciate a detailed guide or practical tips that are manageable for someone with basic DIY skills.
For repairing warped Ikea Metod doors, I recommend the following systematic approach:
1. Remove the door and place it on a flat surface.
2. Identify the exact location of the deformation.
3. If the door is made of MDF with a foil coating, use only slightly damp cloths to avoid fiber damage.
4. Bend the door gently in the opposite direction of the warping, applying controlled force only.
5. Leave the door weighted down for an extended period (at least 24 hours) to set the new shape.
6. After the treatment, readjust the hinges.
In case of severe deformation, a complete replacement should be considered.

I would like to emphasize the point about the hinges again – Ikea Metod doors can often be easily adjusted to visually compensate for minor deformations. It might help to try this first before treating the door with moisture, as that could damage the laminate. It’s a bit like dancing: sometimes a simple step in the right direction is enough 😉.

Maybe it’s helpful to try it out first before treating the door with moistureThat sounds reasonable, as I noticed small bubbles in the film on my door after exposing it to too much moisture, which became clearly visible later. It’s better to first experiment with the hinges, then carefully adjust the humidity.
Thank you for your helpful advice! My doors are actually only slightly warped, the film so far shows no damage, and the hinges can be adjusted to some extent – but the gap remains visible. I will try to remove the door and test the method with a damp cloth and weights. I will get back to you later with results or further questions.
