Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet doors. Some of the doors are slightly warped, causing them not to close properly and leaving gaps in some cases. This mainly affects the doors made of MDF with a foil finish. The deformation is usually visible at the lower corner, where the door appears slightly bulged. My question is: what is the best way to repair these warped doors without having to replace them completely? Are there proven methods to reverse such warping, and if so, what is the recommended procedure? I would greatly appreciate a detailed guide or practical tips that are manageable for someone with basic DIY skills.

I know this problem well; it’s really frustrating when a seemingly simple kitchen door no longer closes properly. I’ve experienced it myself, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if much could be done—especially without damaging the door. It’s great that you’ve done thorough research; that definitely increases the chances of finding a good solution. I’m curious to see what tips others here might have! Sometimes, carefully adjusting the hinges can help, but with warping, I think that might not be enough.

Exactly! I think warped doors are a bit like a wrinkled shirt—you can iron them out, but carefully, or it might get worse. 😅 With MDF doors that have a foil coating, you have to be careful because the foil can crack or peel. Maybe first check if you can remove the door and try to restore its shape using some humidity and weight. Who knows, a damp cloth and some time might already help. Has anyone tried that before?

I’m happy to provide a simple step-by-step guide on how to fix warped Ikea Metod doors:

- Carefully remove the door and place it on a flat, stable surface
- Check whether the warping was caused by moisture or pressure
- Place a damp cloth on the recessed area to soften the material slightly (always be cautious with foil-covered MDF)
- Then gently press the door back into its correct shape against the warp or weigh it down and allow it to dry slowly
- Once dry, rehang the door and adjust the hinges

Common mistakes include using too much moisture or drying too quickly, which can damage the foil. For this reason, I recommend taking a gradual approach.

Remove the door, weigh it down, and let it dry slowly – this is the simplest method. Use only a small amount of water to avoid damaging the veneer.

Attach support battens if the door sags significantly. Otherwise, correct deformation by applying weights.
