Good morning everyone, I have a problem with an IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet door that has warped. The door no longer hangs properly, sometimes doesn’t close completely, and also looks slightly twisted, as if it’s no longer flat. I suspect it’s a slight bowing, probably caused by moisture or incorrect handling.
I’m interested in hearing about methods you know or have used to repair a warped Metod door. Are there any special tools or tricks to restore the original shape without having to replace the door entirely?
It would also be helpful to know if it’s possible to remove the door and treat it in some way to solve the problem permanently. I’m looking forward to your advice!

Before starting to moisten and press, you should make sure that the hinges are properly adjusted. This is an important point that I would like to emphasize.
Many people overlook that the hinge itself can have play or wear—especially in older kitchens. This can make a warped door appear even more pronounced.
I recommend checking and, if necessary, adjusting the hinges first before removing the door and working on it mechanically. Also, adjusting the gap measurements after installation is essential for a clean closing.
Regarding the material: Indeed, Metod doors with laminated surfaces are sensitive to moisture, so you have to be very careful when using water.

Is there a standard procedure for properly adjusting Metod hinges? Or do you know of any software or guides that show step-by-step how to adjust them?
For the Metod hinges:
- During installation, there are adjustment screws that allow you to set the door vertically, horizontally, and in depth.
- Usually, these screws are turned with a Phillips screwdriver.
- The center screw moves the door horizontally, the front screw adjusts the depth, and the rear screw adjusts vertically.
If your door is sagging at the bottom, it usually means the vertical or horizontal screw is incorrectly adjusted. Just try carefully turning the screws and test the results.

Is there a standard procedure for properly adjusting Metod hinges? Yes, stay calm! 😊 The mechanism is cleverly designed, so it’s actually quite quick. Step by step:
- Rear screw: raises or lowers the door.
- Middle screw: moves it sideways.
- Front screw: adjusts the gap to the cabinet front.
Always make only very small turns (a quarter turn) and test the door in between! This way you can see how everything changes. And don’t worry, it won’t break.
Good luck, you’ve got this! 👌

Is there a standard procedure for adjusting Metod hinges correctly? To complete the answer: IKEA usually includes a brief guide with the hinges that explains this adjustment process.Additionally, searching on YouTube for "IKEA Metod door adjustment" often helps—you’ll find videos that clearly demonstrate the adjustment options for the hinges.
Using the screws mentioned earlier is the right approach. It’s best to adjust them one by one, frequently checking if the gap is even and the door closes properly.
If the hinges are older, check for any play or damage. Sometimes, tightening the screws slightly before making adjustments can also help.
Hey, it’s great to see so many tips already shared here! 😃
I’ve tried something else that might help people with warped doors:
- Remove the door
- Use a waterproof clamp or a so-called locking pliers
- Try gentle leverage movements to carefully reshape the door
Be sure to be very cautious, as the material doesn’t always cooperate and you don’t want to cause any cracks in the veneer or coating.
Sometimes you only realize how flexible the door is or if it’s truly warped when you try gently 🙁 But it’s definitely worth a try! Good luck!! 👍
