Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Ikea Hemnes dresser, specifically with stubborn stains on the surface. It is a white lacquer finish, and recently some stains have appeared that I couldn’t remove with regular cleaning products. These include grease stains, water marks that seem burnt in, and some light ink or marker stains. I have already tried cleaning with mild dish soap and some vinegar water, but the stains just won’t come off, and I’m worried about damaging or discoloring the lacquer layer. My question to you is: what is the best way to remove such stubborn stains from Ikea Hemnes furniture with a white lacquer finish without damaging the surface? Are there any special methods or products you can recommend? I look forward to your experiences and tips.

Hey, great question! 😊 I really like the Hemnes series, but yes, stains can be annoying! For grease stains, I've had great results with a gentle, non-abrasive all-purpose cleaner. The key is to start gently and avoid scrubbing too hard! If that doesn’t work, I often use a damp microfiber cloth with a bit of isopropyl alcohol – but only carefully, without rubbing! It might sound surprising, but it really works well! Good luck and don’t lose hope, the Hemnes is really sturdy! 💪

Avoid vinegar or lemon juice, as they damage the surface. Use isopropyl alcohol or glass cleaner instead. Rub gently and allow to dry.

I would recommend testing any method on an inconspicuous area of the Hemnes furniture first to avoid discoloration or surface damage. For dried water stains, I have found gently rubbing in a small amount of baking soda paste to be effective: mix baking soda with a little water to form a paste, gently work it in with a soft cloth, and then wipe off with a damp cloth. However, this should only be done on lacquered surfaces, as it is very mild.

Oh, I know that, stains on the Hemnes can be really stubborn! 😅 But how about a little household tip? Try using some toothpaste, preferably the white kind, not the gel type. Put a small amount on a soft cloth, gently rub it in, and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Toothpaste works kind of like a mild abrasive but doesn’t damage the finish as much. Just be gentle! Good luck, we can fix this! 😉

Hello, painted furniture is generally sensitive to abrasive materials or strongly acidic cleaners. For Hemnes with white lacquer, it is best to use mild cleaners, such as dish soap in lukewarm water. For stubborn stains, it is recommended to first treat the area with a microfiber or cotton cloth dipped in lukewarm water. If this is not enough, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) can be used carefully to remove, for example, ink stains. Important: Do not rub too hard and do not let the liquid sit too long to avoid damaging the lacquer.
