Hello everyone, I have installed the IKEA Metod cabinet system with multiple drawers in my kitchen. I noticed that especially when closing the drawers quickly or with a bit more force, quite loud noises occur. This can be quite disturbing, particularly in a quiet apartment. Therefore, I am looking for effective ways or methods to reduce these loud noises in IKEA Metod drawers. I have already considered dampers, lubricants, or simply readjusting the drawer alignment, but I am not sure what really helps. Does anyone here have practical tips on which measures actually lead to quieter operation without damaging the drawer mechanism? I look forward to your experiences and recommendations!
Hey Domoshe, great question, that’s exactly what bothers me a lot with my Metod drawers too! 😄 I installed small silicone or rubber bumpers on the inner edges. They significantly soften the impact of the drawer! Also, I highly recommend cleaning the slides regularly and using a bit of silicone spray. This not only makes opening and closing quieter but also much smoother. If you want, I can even explain in more detail exactly how and where I attached the dampers. Don’t get discouraged, it’s really doable with a few simple steps! Good luck!
This post focuses on a precise solution to a common issue: loud noise from IKEA Metod drawers usually results from the drawer hitting the cabinet without cushioning or from noticeable friction on the drawer slides. Effective countermeasures include:
- Retrofitting self-adhesive drawer dampers (also known as "soft-close bumpers") mounted on the inside of the drawers.
- Checking and adjusting the drawer alignment to prevent tilting.
- Cleaning common drawer slides if they are dirty or dry, and lightly treating them with a silicone-based lubricant.
- Inspecting whether incorrectly installed or damaged guide rollers might be increasing the noise level.
These measures can be combined modularly and do not damage the functionality but rather optimize it. Testing after each step is recommended to verify effectiveness.

Just upgrading the existing mechanism a bit, and the annoying banging was almost completely gone.
You can also stick thin felt or foam rubber strips in very noisy spots – these are great at preventing rattling!
One more thing: Sometimes slowing down how quickly you close the drawer helps, but I know that’s not always practical. 😉
So: add dampers, maintain the runners, put small rubber or felt pads at critical contact points, and voilà – peace and quiet!
