Hello everyone, I have a problem with a loose drawer in my IKEA Metod kitchen unit. The drawer no longer fits properly in the frame, it wobbles noticeably and cannot be opened or closed smoothly. It seems that either the drawer slide or the front panel attachment is loose. Since I recently assembled the kitchen, I want to fix this quickly and without much effort.
Unfortunately, I can’t find a clear guide or quick solution to secure the drawer again without taking everything apart completely. Has anyone had experience with quickly repairing a loose IKEA Metod drawer? Ideally, I’m looking for tips on how to check and possibly secure the drawer slide, or the best way to tighten screws or plastic parts.
Thanks in advance for any help!

First of all: A loose drawer can almost seem like a minor surgery 😅. Don’t worry, usually a quick check of the slides and making sure all screws are tightened will fix it. Often the small plastic clips on the rails get lost or bent – they are the ones that hold everything in place.
My tip is to pull the drawer all the way out, then inspect the slide rails. If the screws are loose, just tighten them. If the plastic holders of the slides are broken or worn out, replace them – they are available individually at IKEA.
And a little secret – when putting the drawer back in, don’t apply too much force on the front part, as this can cause deeper marks. A bit of care and patience, and it will run like new. Good luck!

To repair a loose IKEA Metod drawer, it is first essential to accurately identify the cause. Most commonly, the rail is either misaligned or the screws are not properly secured.
I recommend the following systematic approach:
- Completely remove the drawer
- Check the drawer slides for deformation, dirt, and correct positioning
- Inspect the screws of the drawer slides in the cabinet and carefully tighten them with the appropriate torque
- Check the function of the locking clip, as its breakage often causes rattling
- If any plastic parts are damaged, they should be replaced with exact original parts (IKEA spare parts)
Such an inspection and adjustment usually takes no longer than 15–20 minutes and restores proper functionality. Additionally, if the problem recurs, check whether all assembly instructions were followed exactly.

I checked it this morning: The screws on the guide rails were indeed a bit loose, especially at the back. After lightly tightening them, the drawer fits much better now. The plastic clips still look intact, but I will keep an eye on them anyway.

Such an inspection and adjustment usually takes no longer than 15-20 minutes and restores full functionality. I can confirm that. Tightening the screws and checking the rails has practically solved my problem. I think the load inside the drawer simply loosened slightly over the past few weeks.
If it becomes loose again, I will take a closer look at the plastic parts. Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice!
