Hello everyone, I need advice on how to protect my Ikea Besta furniture from scratches and stains, especially with daily use in the living room. The surfaces are fairly durable, but after a short time, slight damage already appears, which is frustrating since the furniture is quite expensive. I am looking for practical and effective solutions that are not complicated or costly but provide reliable protection without affecting the appearance of the furniture. Does anyone have tips or proven methods, perhaps special care products, protective films, or covers that work well? Thanks in advance!

I was also hesitant about protective films at first because they often seem sticky. In the end, I used transparent films that are quite thin and barely visible. I had some doubts initially, but it works much better than expected. The main thing is that the film adheres well and is checked regularly to prevent dirt from collecting underneath.
Hello,
I’m adding a short guide for applying the film:
- Thoroughly clean and degrease the furniture surface.
- Slowly apply the film starting from one corner, smoothing out air bubbles with a squeegee or a flat tool.
- Press the edges firmly to prevent moisture from seeping underneath.
One more tip: Some films are more scratch-resistant than others. Look for features like “high transparency” and “scratch resistance.” I have had good experiences with branded films—they are more expensive but last longer.
Also, it’s best not to place sharp objects directly on the surface.

Also remember to check the film after a few months, especially on surfaces that get heavy use.

For surfaces where items are frequently placed, you can use small felt pads or coasters to prevent abrasion and stains. Thanks to everyone so far, these are already very practical tips! I will definitely experiment with felt pads and the film option. I have one more question for those who use protective films: How long do they last in heavily used areas? Do the edges start to lift after some time, or do they remain stable for a long period? Are they difficult to remove if you want to take them off?
