Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding the cleaning of my Ikea Pax wooden doors. Specifically, these are the versions with a real wood veneer surface, which I want to keep clean gently but effectively. I am concerned that conventional cleaning products or too much moisture could damage the wood—such as causing swelling or discoloration.
So my question to you is: How do I properly clean Ikea Pax wooden doors to preserve the surface for a long time without causing damage or unsightly stains? Are there any specific products, methods, or procedures you could recommend? I would be very grateful for tips on suitable cleaning agents, maintenance routines, or the correct way to handle moisture when cleaning.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello MATTEL,
Your concern is completely justified since wood veneers are sensitive to excessive water and harsh cleaners. Here are some tips for gently cleaning IKEA Pax wooden doors:
- Use a soft, slightly damp cloth with lukewarm water.
- Avoid all cleaning products containing alcohol, ammonia, or strong chemicals.
- After cleaning, immediately wipe with a dry cloth to remove any moisture residue.
- For stubborn dirt, you can use a mild, pH-neutral wood cleaner, ideally one designed specifically for veneered furniture.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or steel wool, as they can scratch the surface.
Regular gentle care helps keep the surface looking good for longer.
If you have any further questions, I’m happy to help!

I always used a special wood care oil that not only gives the doors a nice shine but also protects them from drying out and makes the surface more durable. Important: Clean the doors well beforehand with a dry or slightly damp cloth only.
Also, regular dusting is really important—I’ve definitely noticed a difference!
Don’t worry, with the right routine, the doors will look great for a long time. Good luck with the cleaning! 😊

To add to the previous comments, I would like to note that Ikea generally advises against using aggressive cleaners on veneered wood furniture in their care instructions.
The main goal of maintenance should be to minimize moisture and avoid mechanical stress.
I would recommend the following:
- Use creams or oils only with products specifically designed for real wood veneers.
- Always wipe in the direction of the grain to reduce the risk of small scratches.
- Avoid using large amounts of water, as the veneer can cause the substrate to swell.
This approach helps preserve the stability and appearance of the doors over the long term.
