Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Brimnes sideboard and want to properly care for the surface to keep it looking good for a long time. My question is: which cleaning agents and care products are best suited for the Brimnes surface without causing damage or stains? Is it better to use only a dry cloth or a damp cleaning method? I am also interested in whether harsh cleaning products should definitely be avoided and if there are any special tips to consider for this type of material. Thank you in advance!

Are there any special care products, such as polishes or protective sprays, that reduce fading? In general, caution is advised when using polishes or waxes on melamine-coated wood, as they can leave residues that accumulate on the surface and attract dirt more easily. Therefore, I recommend:
- Avoid polishes on melamine-coated surfaces.
- For light cleaning, use a neutral all-purpose cleaner.
- To protect against sunlight, consider using special UV protection films for windows.
These provide better long-term protection for the furniture than care products.
Good morning, I wanted to provide some feedback: I tried using a damp microfiber cloth and am very satisfied with the result. The surface looks freshly cleaned without any water marks. I also tried the tip with the furniture marker to hide scratches, and it works well for minor damage.
If anyone has additional tips, especially for stubborn stains, I would appreciate it.

For stubborn stains, you can carefully try a baking soda paste: mix a little baking soda with a small amount of water, apply it to a soft cloth, and gently rub the spot. Then, of course, wipe it off with a clean, damp cloth. Don’t scrub, or you might cause scratches.
This has surprisingly removed several stains for me.
Baking soda can be a mild but effective solution, though it should be used with care. For very sensitive surfaces or large-scale cleaning, a specialized, pH-neutral household cleaner is recommended.
For oily stains, it is helpful to first place some dry kitchen paper and gently press to absorb the oil before cleaning with a damp cloth.

In addition to the methods already mentioned: If stains are caused by coloring substances such as wine or coffee, wipe them off immediately with a damp cloth. If the stain is deeper, an alcohol-free glass cleaner on a soft cloth may help—test very carefully.
In general: The faster you react, the fewer permanent stains will occur.

Many thanks to everyone who provided helpful advice—it has been very useful for handling and maintaining the Brimnes furniture. The combination of gentle cleaning, careful touch-up of small scratches, and protection from sunlight and dirt seems to be the right approach. I will continue to apply these tips and will report back if I encounter any particular issues.
