Hello everyone,

I recently bought several Platsa units from Ikea and am now working on attaching the doors. However, I’m having trouble figuring out how to properly fix the doors so that they close smoothly and don’t start to sag or become misaligned after a short time.

My specific questions are:
- Which screws and tools are ideally used for the installation?
- Is there a trick to adjusting the hinges for consistent closing?
- How can the doors be attached securely without damaging the panels?

I have read the instructions, but it’s not entirely clear to me whether I should fully assemble the doors first and then attach them, or prepare the hinges separately.

I look forward to any tips, experiences, or step-by-step guides you can share. Thanks!

For installing the PLATSA doors, it is best to use the included hinge fittings and supplied screws.

- First, attach the hinges to the door frame.
- Then hang the door on the cabinet body.
- Use the adjustment screws to fine-tune the alignment.

Tools: Phillips screwdriver, cordless drill with torque control is recommended.

Hello Brigittepa,

I’m happy to provide you with a detailed guide for properly attaching the Ikea PLATSA doors:

1. Preparation:
- Make sure the carcasses are level and stable.
- Lay out all the hinges and check that all screws have been provided.

2. Attach the hinges to the door:
- Take the hinges and install them on the inside of the door according to the instructions.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver; a cordless drill with low torque is recommended to avoid damaging the screws.

3. Mount the door:
- Carefully hang the door onto the mounting plates fixed to the frame of the carcass.

4. Adjustment:
- Use the small adjustment screws on the hinges to regulate height, side-to-side alignment, and depth. This will help prevent the doors from rubbing or being misaligned.

5. Always check the closing function; the doors should close smoothly and without resistance.

A common mistake is tightening the screws too firmly before properly aligning the door. So, start by loosely attaching, then align, and finally tighten.

If you have doors with a soft-close feature, pay special attention to the correct positioning of the dampers.

I hope this helps you!

Regarding the first question: Ikea usually provides the appropriate screws that you should use. Other screws might damage the material or not hold the hinges properly.

For adjusting the hinges: The PLATSA hinges have three adjustment options – horizontal, vertical, and depth (distance to the cabinet wall). Use the adjustment screws for each to align the door. It’s best to make small adjustments and check the closing after each step.

To fasten the doors securely without damage: Make sure not to drive the screws in too deep or apply too much pressure. If the screws are overtightened, they can cause the wood panel to expand or split. It’s better to proceed gently and, if you feel confident with tools, pre-drill the holes.

In general, I recommend performing all adjustments as a test before final assembly, so everything can be fixed in place properly.

I also had issues with the PLATSA doors, especially that they started to hang slightly crooked after a few weeks. My experience:

- First, check if the carcass is perfectly level.
- When attaching the hinges, I initially only loosely screwed them in, hung the doors, and then adjusted them step by step.
- Adjusting can be frustrating if you're not sure how much each screw affects the door. Patience is key here.

I can only confirm this; it helped me the most.

If the issue might also be caused by uneven flooring, you should readjust the feet of the carcass. Hope this helps!

This often happens when the doors or the cabinet frame are not properly aligned. I recommend, in addition to adjusting the hinges, checking all the connection points of the cabinet, as the entire piece of furniture can slightly warp over time.

I agree with that – especially with the rather thin panels of PLATSA, you should be careful with the screw tightening torque.

One more tip: use a fine screwdriver when screwing, as it gives you better control and prevents damage. If you still experience problems with crooked doors after some time, a small hinge adjustment kit can also help for fine-tuning.
