Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with soft-close drawers, but I still have some uncertainties regarding the installation, especially concerning the correct alignment and adjustment of the drawers.

I have read the instructions, but the details about securing the soft-close mechanism and the optimal setting of the drawer runners are somewhat limited or not entirely clear to me.

Therefore, my questions are: How do I properly assemble the Metod cabinets with the soft-close drawers so that everything functions as it should? Are there any specific tips to pay attention to, ensuring the drawers close smoothly without sticking or rubbing? How can I avoid common mistakes made during installation?

I would really appreciate a step-by-step guide, personal tips, or advice on essential tools needed. Thanks in advance!

Hello gogapi,

I’d be happy to explain how I approach assembling the Metod cabinets with soft-close drawers.

- First, carefully assemble the cabinet carcass according to the instructions, paying special attention to the corners and ensuring all connections are secure.

- Make sure to install the drawer slides perfectly parallel and level; otherwise, the drawers may bind later. Check this with a spirit level.

- Install the soft-close mechanism only after the drawers are in place, so you can position the dampers correctly.

- For adjusting the drawers, use the adjustment screws on the sides. These allow you to fine-tune the height, depth, and lateral alignment precisely.

- Make sure to use the right tools: a cordless drill with torque control helps prevent overtightening and protects the material.

- Finally, test each drawer multiple times to ensure they close smoothly without squeaking or scraping.

If you like, I can also share some common mistakes I made myself and how you can easily avoid them.

I completely agree! 😉 Nothing is worse than tightening a screw so much that either the screw or the wood gets damaged. Especially with flat-pack furniture, a powerful cordless drill with stepless torque adjustment really brings a lot of joy and much less frustration.

What I also recommend is taking plenty of time to adjust the drawers. Depending on how smoothly you want them to slide, it requires some patience and a delicate touch. Once you get the hang of it, assembling and adjusting become really enjoyable. And hey, a quietly closing piece of furniture is all the more satisfying, right?

If you have any questions about installing drawer slides or want tips on fine-tuning, just ask! 😊

I know that feeling very well. I also underestimated assembling Ikea furniture at first and often got frustrated when the drawers didn’t operate smoothly.

What always helps me is to first check the alignment very carefully. Sometimes you think the parts fit, but if, for example, the drawer slides are even slightly off, nothing will run smoothly afterward.

That may sound obvious, but it’s the most often underestimated step.

Also, before fully assembling the drawers, I always remove the soft-close dampers and test them separately. Often it helps to adjust their position beforehand to ensure perfect damping.

One more tip: When inserting the drawers, don’t push them in with full force at first. Slide them in gently and test how they move to avoid damaging the slides.

I hope this helps you a bit and encourages you to keep going. If you want, feel free to share how it’s going for you!
