Hello everyone, some time ago I bought an IKEA Malm drawer chest and noticed that some of the drawers are a bit loose or wobble. This causes them to be unstable when pulled out and sometimes slightly misalign. My question is: How can I best prevent the wobbling in Malm drawers? Are there simple tricks or technical solutions to adjust the drawer slides or drawer components so that everything fits more firmly? I would also appreciate tips on maintenance or occasional readjustment in case the wobbling cannot be completely eliminated right away. Thanks in advance!

Some also recommend lightly sanding the inner edges of the drawer sides if they fit too tightly That is indeed a quick fix if you have a good sense of how much you can remove.
But honestly, these are symptoms that the design from IKEA here tends to favor a budget solution. With Malm, wobbling is almost inherent by design, and I wonder if it can really be fully fixed with just some fine adjustments.
My opinion: If you want absolute stability, you need to invest more money or do some DIY work yourself and possibly use stronger materials.

Also check if the drawers are properly installed. Sometimes they’re not hung completely parallel. Thanks for the tip, that makes sense. I will check if I can readjust or position the drawers more precisely.

Wobbling is almost typical for Malm by design. Interesting that you see it that way. At first, I thought it was a problem that could be fixed with simple measures. Then I’ll have to consider whether to readjust the drawers again or just accept it calmly. Fortunately, they don’t wobble excessively, but it is a bit annoying.
Do you also have experience with the durability of the plastic glides? Are they quickly recognizable as wear parts to an experienced eye?
The plastic glides on Malm drawers are often the cause of wobbling over time. After a few years of use, they can become smaller or develop cracks, which increases play in the drawer slides.
A simple test: pull out the drawer and closely inspect the glides to see if they still look intact and fit securely. If they are loose or have small cracks, it is worth replacing them.
IKEA offers replacement glides that can be purchased inexpensively.
In addition to replacing the glides, regular cleaning of the tracks and rollers is important, as dust and dirt tend to accumulate over time and affect the drawer movement. In summary – with some maintenance and a replacement part, Malm drawers usually become stable again.
