I have noticed that the hinges on my IKEA Metod kitchen doors sometimes squeak unpleasantly. Despite multiple checks during installation, the noise cannot be completely eliminated. My question to you is: How can I permanently prevent squeaking in the IKEA Metod door hinges?
I am not just looking for a short-term fix, such as simply oiling them, but a durable and reliable method to avoid squeaking long-term. Maybe there are special lubricants or specific adjustments to the hinges that could help?
I would appreciate practical tips, especially concerning material compatibility and possible long-term effects. If anyone has experience with a similar issue or can provide detailed installation advice, I look forward to your suggestions!

Hey JoChristop, I had the exact same problem with my Metod hinges and can tell you: you’re not alone! 😄 The squeaking usually comes from missing or incorrect lubricant.
I’ve had good results with a sprayable silicone lubricant – it often works wonders because it doesn’t stick or attract dirt. It’s important to treat not only the outside but also the moving parts inside. The best way is to unscrew the hinge, spray it, let it soak in, and then reassemble everything. After that, the squeaking is almost completely gone!
And don’t worry, the silicone won’t damage the plastic or metal – I have that from a reliable source! So give it a try, I’m keeping my fingers crossed it works for you too!

The squeaking usually comes from missing or incorrect lubricant. This is a common assumption, but I wonder if the squeaking could also be due to mechanical causes, such as slight material shifts or stress from incorrect installation position.
Lubricant can provide a temporary fix, but if the hinge is permanently misaligned or the material has minor irregularities, the squeaking may not stop or could return.
Has anyone here systematically checked the installation and also tested whether the squeaking sound varies under different loads? That might help determine whether it’s truly a lubrication issue or more related to the material or installation.

Lubricant can provide a short-term fix, but if the hinge is permanently misaligned or the material has fine irregularities, the squeaking may not stop or may return. That is correct. The cause of squeaking in IKEA Metod door hinges usually lies in a combination of lack of lubrication and slight misalignment.
Most recently, I have systematically recommended the following methods:
- Cleaning the hinge area from dust and debris
- Using a durable lubricant such as silicone or Teflon spray (please avoid oil, as it attracts dirt)
- Checking/adjusting the hinges with the included adjustment tool from IKEA to reduce stress
- Replacing individual hinges if material wear is present
Although the steps recommended by the manufacturer are simple, often a combination of all measures is needed to achieve lasting quietness. Long-term studies on the durability of lubrication are lacking, but experience reports confirm the effectiveness of this approach.
