I recently installed some Ikea Metod drawers, but despite correct assembly, a few of these drawers keep falling out when I pull them open. My question is: How can I reliably prevent Ikea Metod drawers from coming out of the cabinet? Are there any proven techniques, installation adjustments, or additional parts that can help with this? I am using the Metod soft-close drawer slides, but that doesn’t seem to be enough. I am also curious whether the problem might be caused by incorrect installation of the slides or if there are any special considerations to ensure proper function. Thanks in advance to everyone who shares their experience here!

- Install the rails exactly parallel
- Fully insert the drawer and check the locking tabs
- If present, inspect the soft-close mechanism to ensure it is properly installed and functioning
The cause is usually a combination of installation errors and wear of the locking mechanisms.

Thanks for the information so far! I just wanted to add that these are the standard Metod drawers with soft-close and the regular runners, and the load isn’t really excessive—more like normal kitchen use. My suspicion is more about the installation, especially when hooking the drawer onto the runners. How can you tell if the locking tabs are properly engaged without pulling the drawer out again? Is an audible click a reliable indicator, or can it also be checked visually?

Additionally, you can carefully pull on the drawer to ensure that it is securely in place. It is also important to visually inspect the locking tabs—they should be flush within the mechanism and not crooked.

There is also the option to attach small cable ties or similar aids to the railsOf course, if the Ikea construction fails, then we just improvise something. Anyone can buy spare parts. Joking aside, this actually shows that it’s better to opt for higher-quality systems if you want reliability.
