Hello everyone, I currently have several IKEA Brimnes dressers at home and have increasingly noticed that the drawers sometimes come off their tracks, which is obviously annoying. I am especially interested in how to prevent this from happening permanently. I understand that it might be due to the quality of the drawer slides, but also how the drawers are used or installed.

My specific questions are:
- Are there any special installation or adjustment tips to keep the drawers from coming off the tracks?
- What can be done if a drawer has already come off several times—how can this be properly repaired or adjusted?
- Are there alternative sliding systems or reinforcements that can be fitted to BRIMNES drawers?

I look forward to practical and detailed answers, preferably with advice on common mistakes to avoid.

Good morning, your question is well structured, so I will try to answer systematically:

1. Installation and Adjustment: The BRIMNES drawers run on simple metal rails with plastic rollers. It is important that these rails are installed completely straight and both sides are parallel to each other. When inserting the drawer, make sure it is placed evenly and not pushed in at an angle. They often come off if you pull the drawer out crookedly or if it gets stuck.

2. Fine-Tuning/Repair: If a drawer has come off, first check whether the rails are bent or if the plastic clips on the rollers are damaged. Sometimes cleaning the rails (removing dust/lint) and carefully realigning them can help.

3. Alternatives or Reinforcements: There are no official alternative rails from Ikea for BRIMNES, but some users install additional side brackets or double-roller rails for better support. Sliding surfaces with mounting adhesive or self-adhesive felt strips can also help stabilize the movement.

Common issues include overloading the drawers or pulling them out fully and then at an angle.

In summary:
- Install the rails straight
- Pull the drawers out straight and carefully
- Check the rails for damage
- Add alternative reinforcements if needed

I hope this helps you!

Hey! Great topic, I had exactly the same problem with my BRIMNES chest of drawers!!! 😃 What helped me was actually taking the drawer out completely first and then properly aligning the cabinet.

Additionally, I attached these small rubber stoppers to the ends of the drawer slides – this keeps the drawer securely in place and stops it from popping out! Definitely give it a try!!

And don’t worry, with a little care and patience, you can easily fix it. You can do it!

For further clarification: The cause of the drawers coming off in BRIMNES is often due to the design of the drawer slides. These are not intended for particularly heavy loads.

To permanently resolve the issue, it is advisable not to exceed the maximum load capacity of the drawers (around 10 kg (22 lbs) according to the manufacturer’s specifications). Additionally, the slides should prevent repeated extreme extension of the drawer.

It is also important to ensure that the guides are installed precisely and without any play to avoid tilting movements that promote the drawers coming off.

A structural modification, such as replacing the original guides with ball-bearing slides that include a locking mechanism, can significantly improve functionality and increase stability.

However, these measures require some craftsmanship and should be carefully planned.

Interesting thread.
However, I wonder whether the drawers coming off are really only due to incorrect installation or overloading, or if there is a design flaw involved.

That sounds very plausible to me. The runners are very simple models and are unlikely to be replaced by more modern or robust systems. Therefore, it would be interesting to know if anyone has installed proven alternatives.

Additionally, is there perhaps a technical document from IKEA that provides information on the maximum load or tolerance of the runners? An official basis for investigating the causes seems sensible to me.

So I doubt that simple adjustments or “soft” solutions like felt strips can solve the underlying problem.

I really like this discussion! 😊

Sometimes it’s just a matter of proper handling. Not overloading drawers, not forcing them open, and occasionally doing a bit of maintenance—like keeping the sliding tracks clean.

How did I solve it? I developed a small routine: every few months I pull out the drawers, check the drawer slides, and lightly lubricate them with silicone spray (not too much!). This makes everything run more smoothly and significantly reduces the risk of the drawers coming off.

Also, to be honest, I always enjoy having to take a drawer out or put it back in because it helps me pay attention to unnecessary clutter. 😄 Less is often more!
