Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of redecorating my room and would like to use the Ikea Platsa system because it seems very flexible. However, I’m unsure how to plan the best dimensions for the individual modules so that everything fits perfectly in the room, provides enough storage space, and doesn’t look overcrowded.

My room has an area of about 15 square meters, with a ceiling height of 2.50 m (8.2 ft). I have roughly measured the wall where I want to place PLATSA, but I would like to know which factors I should consider to assemble the ideal module size and combination.

How do you plan your PLATSA dimensions? Are there any tools or tips for optimal space utilization? And how do you take into account possible doors, windows, or radiators? I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Step 1: Measure the room precisely, including distances to windows, radiators, electrical outlets, light switches, and doors.

This step is essential. I would add that when measuring the room, you should also measure the wall where the built-in wardrobe will be placed and accurately record the wall surface. It helps to mark any interruptions such as power strips, light switches, and similar features.

Additionally, I recommend allowing a small tolerance of 5 mm (0.2 inches) in case the wall surfaces are uneven. This helps avoid unpleasant surprises during installation.

Hey, I just wanted to say I love PLATSA for its flexibility! 😎 A little tip from me:

Make a detailed mind map of everything you want to store beforehand. That way, you can comfortably piece the modules together.

And honestly, leaving a bit of space at the top can do a lot — it looks airier and gives your room a greater sense of space. 🎈

Don’t be afraid of some height, but keep ladders in mind if you need regular access. 😉

For dimensions: 64 cm (25 inches) high modules are standard and combine well. 192 cm (76 inches) high modules offer a lot of storage space but are difficult to reach at the top.

Build the cabinets modularly and plan the storage space according to frequent use.

Open shelves should always be at eye level, with closed compartments either below or above.

Would you recommend stacking vertically or choosing wider combinations?

The decision also depends on the structural capacity of the floor and the wall. PLATSA can be securely fixed to the wall, making tall units stable.

I recommend performing a load analysis: store heavy items as low as possible to increase stability.

Additionally, make sure the units have appropriate back panels, as this enhances stability when building higher.

I love it when I can make perfect use of a corner in the room! PLATSA offers so many possibilities! 🔥

My tip: Plan the colors and fronts right from the start to give your room a really cool look!

And don’t worry, it’s usually the small details that impress – like lighting or decorative elements in the open compartments! 🤩
