Hello everyone,

I am planning to use IKEA Platsa in a room with a sloped ceiling and would like to know the best approach to maximize storage capacity while achieving an attractive look. I face various challenges, especially how to combine the modules so they fit the angled wall without losing too much space or making the room look cluttered.

Does anyone have experience with precise measuring and planning of PLATSA units for sloped ceilings? I am particularly interested in how you choose the modules, determine the dimensions, and secure them to the slope. Are there any practical tips for height adjustments, corner solutions, or custom cuts?

I look forward to your input and advice!

Hello Vinlo,

Your question about planning IKEA PLATSA in rooms with sloped ceilings is very relevant, as this furniture series is flexible but still requires proper planning to work optimally on angled walls.

First, for preparation: Accurate measurement of the slope is essential. I recommend measuring the maximum height at several points along the slope, as well as the depth of the usable space. It’s best to enter these measurements into a drawing or planning software.

Regarding module selection:
- Choose widths that can be combined well (60, 80, 100 cm (24, 31, 39 inches)) and depths (35 or 40 cm (14 or 16 inches)) that fit your space.
- For smaller or angled areas, you can use PLATSA units with reduced depth.

For adapting to the slope:
- Use adjustable shelves and open compartments to flexibly adjust the height.
- When installing, it’s advisable not to place the modules directly on the floor but to attach them to the wall.
- Cutting or trimming should be done externally or with IKEA customization services.

For design:
- A continuous top edge creates a visually cleaner look, so plan the height so that the modules align along one line.
- Use light colors or closed fronts for a tidy appearance.

When fastening, be sure to use secure wall brackets, especially on sloped walls, to ensure stability.

If you need more details, feel free to ask.

That’s exactly the challenge – finding the balance between efficient storage and an open, airy feel. My advice: combine open shelves with closed cabinets! Open shelving keeps the space feeling light, while closed cabinets are great for hiding clutter.

Also, with the right mix, you can make the most of “hidden” areas in the smaller units at the top of the slope. I once placed small boxes there when the height was too tight. It not only looks cool but works really well! 😉

Important: take your time measuring – double-check every measurement. For my sloped ceiling, it was almost a science, but definitely worth it! 📐

Good luck and most of all, have fun planning!

Hello Vinlo,

I would like to add some basic tips for working with PLATSA and sloping ceilings that might be helpful for your planning.

First of all, it is important to define the slope very precisely, not only the height but also the angle of the slope. Some PLATSA modules can be assembled quite flexibly, but with steep sloping ceilings, custom solutions or creative adjustments—such as modifying shelf boards—are often recommended.

Also, keep in mind that PLATSA is originally designed for heights up to about 220 cm (87 inches). If your slope drops below this height significantly, you can mount the modules slightly away from the wall and visually fill the gap with, for example, chipboard panels or foam pieces.

A few helpful points:
- Take multiple measurements, preferably using a spirit level and an angle gauge.
- Plan the layout so that frequently used items are stored in the fully accessible areas, and less often used things are placed higher up or within the slope.
- Securely fixing the modules is crucial; be sure to select suitable wall plugs appropriate for your wall type.
- Consider that the cabinet fronts can appear distorted on sloped surfaces, so plan for straight front panels or open compartments.

If you have any further specific questions, I’m happy to assist.

Hello everyone! 🙂

I have a sloped ceiling in my home office and find PLATSA really practical!

I can definitely agree with that! For me, it was important that the room didn’t feel cluttered despite the slope. So I used tall cabinets at the bottom and open shelves above, which creates a light and modern atmosphere.

What also really helps is taking a modular approach—don’t buy everything at once, start with the most essential modules. This way, you can adjust and optimize more easily.

Additionally, I left out the back panels, which visually makes the space feel bigger and works very well with the sloped ceiling.

If you’d like, I’m happy to share more about my experiences! Good luck with your planning!
