Hello everyone, I am currently planning to set up a homeschooling room and am considering IKEA Platsa for this. The goal is to create a functional, flexible space that is perfectly suited for learning and doing homework. My main question is: How do you plan Platsa so that there is enough storage space for school supplies, books, and technology without making the room feel cluttered? It would also be great to know how others adapt their Platsa solutions to the changing needs of children of different ages. I look forward to practical planning tips, experiences with the dimensions or combinations of elements, and also to hearing whether you prefer to focus on standalone modules or add drawers and doors. Thanks in advance for your support!

For cable management in Platsa, I recommend using cable conduits behind the back panel or openings in the shelves. The modules can often be planned so that power outlets are nearby, and a small cable holder or clip fits perfectly between the shelves. If possible, a power strip can also be mounted on the back panel.

Great topic! I equipped my PLATSA home-schooling setup with LED strips, which really changes the atmosphere in the room! I bundled the cables behind the desk using cable ties. This keeps the area neat and motivating. I can only recommend using flexible shelves, so you can later add your own decorations or plants, which brings positive energy for studying!

As the PLATSA planning progresses, I recommend using adjustable drawers or boxes to neatly organize school supplies. Also consider labeled containers. This especially helps children improve their self-organization and makes homework routines easier.

My experience shows that it is helpful to involve the children in the planning process. They often have the best sense of what is needed or what might be distracting when it comes to learning. At first, I was unsure if PLATSA would really fit, but with feedback and small adjustments, the space turned into a true place of comfort. Stay patient and don’t hesitate to replace parts afterward.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to actively involve the kids. To be honest, I’m still cautious because two children of different ages have different needs. That’s why I’m planning modules at different heights so, for example, the younger one can more easily reach materials. Do you think PLATSA can be expanded later on without having to rebuild the existing structure?

Yes, PLATSA is designed as a modular system that allows additions at various points. However, it is important to plan a sensible base structure from the start so that later extensions can be made with minimal effort. For example, additional shelves or cabinets can be attached to existing units if the back panels are compatible. It is essential to always consider the weight and stability. A well-designed base frame significantly simplifies future expansions.
