Hello everyone,
we want to enhance our terrace with large-format porcelain tiles (60cm x 60cm (24in x 24in)) on pedestal supports.
Generally, this is not a problem.
However, we have a downpipe that is about 5cm (2 inches) away from the wall.
We want to lay the tiles all the way up to the wall.
Now my question is:
How do I lay the tiles around the downpipe?
Unfortunately, the downpipe is fixed and I can’t remove it.
If it were loose, I would simply lay the tiles, drill a hole, and then reinstall the pipe. Problem solved.

I was thinking about starting the joint around the downpipe and then cutting two tiles into semicircles at the right spots.

But somehow this doesn’t seem like a great idea to me.
Also, I’m not sure how to make those cuts. A diamond core bit is out of the question, as is an angle grinder.

Maybe you have an idea of what could work here.

Best regards,
Mattes

Why does the diamond core drill bit come loose? You can borrow one. Then drill while keeping it wet. Otherwise, it definitely won’t work properly, and certainly not with precise dimensions.

Hi Vicky,
I read your message.
Unfortunately, there was no diamond drill bit available to borrow, so I bought an expensive ceramic drill bit for $43 at the hardware store.
It worked really well.
