Hello everyone, I have been experiencing a persistent and loud squeaking issue with the hinges on my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets for quite some time. Despite repeated use and minor adjustments, the noise has not stopped. I assume it is due to the common metal-on-metal friction. I am particularly interested in how to permanently fix the hinges rather than just temporarily suppress the squeaking with lubricants. Are there proven methods or specific products that provide a lasting solution? Perhaps mechanical modifications or sustainable lubrication techniques? I appreciate any well-founded advice, as I like to do the work myself and prefer long-lasting solutions.

You mention a “light adjustment,” but what exactly do you mean?To fix the issue permanently, precise adjustment is just as important as lubrication. IKEA Metod hinges typically have three adjustment screws:
- Lateral for horizontal alignment
- Vertical on the cabinet
- Depth for door pressure
Incorrect adjustment can cause pressure marks or overload the spring, leading to increased squeaking.
It is advisable to slightly loosen all screws first, then readjust the hinge with precise small turns, and finally tighten them carefully.
Additionally, I recommend using a PTFE-based lubricant for long-lasting protection.

Until now, I had only loosened the front screw slightly and then tightened it again immediately. I will try your method.
At the same time, I will use a PTFE spray and pay attention to the points LOGEMIN mentioned. One last question: How often should this maintenance be done on Metod hinges to ensure long-term smoothness? I assume an annual interval would be sufficient, right?

How often should this maintenance be performed on Metod hinges to ensure lasting quietness?Once a year is generally sufficient, especially if the hinge is not subjected to unusually heavy use.
However, if there is exposure to moisture, dust, or heavier use, the interval can be shortened to every 6 months.
It is always important to clean the hinges beforehand to avoid trapping dirt particles that could cause wear.
