Hello everyone, I have installed IKEA Metod tall cabinets in my kitchen and am currently working on optimizing the interior lighting to improve visibility and access to the contents. The cabinets are quite deep, and due to the dark corners, it can be difficult to get a clear overview, especially when I need to find things quickly.

My question is: How can I best optimize the lighting inside IKEA Metod tall cabinets for better visibility? I am particularly interested in recommendations for light sources (e.g., LED strips, spotlights), the best ways to position them, which color temperature is most suitable, and any special tips regarding electrical supply and installation to keep cables neat. Additionally, I would like to know which lighting solutions integrate well with the existing Metod cabinets and any available power outlets.

I look forward to your experiences and advice, including suggestions for recommended products or DIY solutions.

A well-planned interior lighting solution for Metod tall cabinets ideally uses flexible LED strips or slim LED panels, as these take up minimal space and are easy to customize.

I recommend the following approach:
- Install LEDs along the inner side edges to avoid shadows
- A color temperature around 4000K (neutral white) provides natural-looking light that renders colors well
- Use dimmable LED strips to adjust brightness depending on the situation
- Power the lights via a separate power adapter installed outside the cabinet to avoid heat buildup inside
- Manage cables neatly with small clips or cable channels along the interior edges

Motion sensors that activate the light when the cabinet door opens are also recommended; they save energy and add convenience.

How can I best optimize the lighting inside IKEA Metod tall cabinets for better visibility? I’m particularly interested in recommendations for light sources (e.g., LED strips, spotlights), how to position them, which color temperature is most suitable, and any special tips for power supply and installation to keep cables neatly arranged.

I would like to go into more detail on the technical implementation and practical aspects, as there can be some challenges when installing lighting in Metod tall cabinets that are worth considering in advance:

1. Lighting Positioning:
The lighting should be installed to provide even illumination of the interior surfaces. In deep tall cabinets, I recommend attaching LED strips both along the inside top panel of the cabinet and on the vertical side walls. It is important to ensure that no light source is blocked by adjustable shelves—this can be achieved either by leaving small cutouts at the top edge of the shelves or by choosing LED strips that run along the side back panel.

2. Color Temperature:
Neutral white light (around 3500 to 4000 Kelvin) works best in my experience, as warm white often appears too yellowish and cool white can slightly distort some materials. This is especially important when storing food or assessing packaging.

3. Power Supply and Installation:
A useful tip: Since Metod cabinets have a fairly sturdy back panel, it’s a good place to mount a cable channel. Cables can be routed there discreetly, avoiding contact with any moving parts. Important: When drilling cable entry holes, be careful to avoid hinges and metal profiles to prevent short circuits.

4. Controls:
I recommend motion sensors mounted on the cabinet door or push switches on the door frame. These ensure that the LEDs automatically turn on when the cabinet is opened.

5. Dimmability:
This is important for adjusting brightness depending on ambient lighting. Especially in kitchens, where softer lighting is often preferred in the evening, a dimmer makes a big difference.

One more question: How are your Metod tall cabinets set up? With traditional doors or drawers? And what type of interior fittings do you use (shelves, baskets, etc.)? This information could be important for planning the lighting more precisely.

I would second that question since drawers often require different lighting compared to open shelves.

In general:
- Mount LED strips at the top
- Connect lighting to a motion sensor
- Use neutral white light at around 4000K
- Hide the cables behind the back panel

This way, you get the best visibility without much installation effort.
