Hello everyone, I would like to upgrade or improve the LED lighting in my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets, as the standard lighting is often too weak or uneven. It is especially important to me to have good illumination in the upper part of the cabinets, preferably energy-efficient and easy to install. Does anyone have tips on the best LED technologies, such as strips, spotlights, or sensor-activated solutions? Which color temperature works best for kitchen furniture? I’m also interested in advice on how to neatly hide the cables and whether a battery-powered system is worthwhile or if a hardwired option with mains connection is better. Thanks for your experiences and recommendations!

I recommend LED strips with warm white light (around 3000K) mounted directly under the top shelves. Mains operation is more reliable, especially for continuous use. It is best to route cables behind the cabinet profiles for a neat appearance. Motion sensors offer convenience but can sometimes be prone to faults. Battery operation is only worthwhile for smaller, rarely used cabinets.

To optimize LED lighting in IKEA Metod cabinets equipped with LED technology, several systematic points should be considered:

- First, choosing the right type of LED is essential. Flexible LED strips provide even illumination throughout the interior due to their adaptability. Spotlights create focused beams but often result in uneven lighting distribution.

- For color temperature, a neutral white light between 3500K and 4000K is recommended. This daylight spectrum offers clear visibility during kitchen tasks without the warmer or cooler tones found at 3000K or 5000K.

- The power supply should be permanently installed to avoid the need for battery replacements. Cables can often be discreetly routed along the cabinet backs or inside the rails.

- For easy control, LED transformer modules with switches or motion sensors can be integrated directly into the power circuit.

A common mistake is concentrating the light source too strongly. It is better to install multiple short sections of LED strips distributed evenly to eliminate shadows and create uniform brightness.

In summary: flexible LED strips with neutral white light, a fixed power supply, and careful cable routing greatly enhance lighting in the Metod cabinet.

Exactly, and I think many people focus too much on "design" and forget that kitchen lighting should primarily be functional. The LED strips that IKEA offers themselves are often simply too weak, so always keep in mind that not all LEDs are the same. Cheap LEDs tend to flicker or lose brightness quickly.

Motion sensors inside cabinets sound great in theory, but in practice, I often find them annoying because they turn on too late or suddenly switch off. Instead, I would prefer smart controls or manual switches. Hiding cables is usually easy enough if you drill holes in the back panel or use tracks.

And speaking of color temperature: to be honest, I found it too sterile. For the kitchen, I want a natural, slightly warmer light; anything well above 3000K (5400°F) feels like cold light to me and is less comfortable. But of course, that’s a matter of personal taste.
