Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen project and have chosen the IKEA Metod cabinet system. Since my kitchen is located under a sloping roof, I am facing some challenges during the planning phase. My question to the community is: How do you optimize the installation of IKEA Metod cabinets under sloped ceilings so that the available space is used as efficiently as possible while the cabinets remain stable and functional? I would like to make as few modifications to the cabinets myself as possible, but still want to be flexible enough to accommodate the slope. Are there any proven adjustments or tips that have worked well for you in such cases? I am especially interested in how you have adapted or supplemented the cabinets, whether you used special side panels, custom cuts, or tailored solutions, and how you handled the installation under the slope. Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

Short and precise:
- Measure the slope before purchase,
- manufacture or cut suitable side panels,
- adjust the cabinet height accordingly,
- compensate for slopes using triangular battens or baseboards.

Usually helps.

Hello Tinkar,

I would like to add that flexible connector plates from IKEA or third-party manufacturers work very well for sloped ceilings. They make it easy to detach and position the cabinet units, allowing you to adapt perfectly to angled dimensions.

It is also important to consider the cabinet volumes – often the front space is fully utilized, but the back doesn’t fit properly, which increases the risk of dust accumulation. Using custom-fit panels and possibly self-made finishing strips that seal the space airtight can help with this.

Using edge protectors during installation also helps protect vulnerable corners from damage, so you can enjoy your furniture for longer.

I wish you much success with your project!

Hi Tinkar and readers,

I believe you should be a bit creative with sloped ceilings. For example, I built "platforms" for the cabinets to stand on, creating a level that matches the slope. Then I used panels and baseboards to create a neat transition.

I think less is more with sloped ceilings: smarter solutions that leave space.

I completely agree! You shouldn’t force yourself but make the best use of the room and be willing to move away from the usual cabinet arrangement.

Sometimes open shelving solutions are also a plus, as they make the slope feel lighter.

Enjoy your planning!

I worked a lot with custom trim strips that were then adjusted. This creates a clean finishing strip below the slope.

That sounds like a good idea. At the beginning of my project, I was worried that size adjustments would always be so tedious and that there wouldn’t be enough storage space. I need to take another look at the custom trim strips.

Great inspiration! I had thought about that too, but my floor lines are not quite as straight, which makes construction more difficult. Still, I find it very helpful to see different approaches here.

Thanks for all the tips so far, it’s encouraging to get started!
