Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea Metod kitchen unit in my new apartment. To work as efficiently and accurately as possible, I have a question here: How can I optimize the installation of Ikea Metod kitchen units?

I am especially interested in tips for preparation, the right tools, potential pitfalls when assembling the base cabinets, as well as advice on correctly leveling and securing the modules to the wall and floor.

Does anyone have experience with special techniques that save time and significantly improve the results? What sequence has proven effective? And how can I avoid damage to the cabinets or the wall?

I look forward to your well-founded advice, technical guidance, and any practical recommendations that can make the installation easier and more sustainable.

I built my structure by myself last year and was quite apprehensive at first – but with thorough preparation, it’s really enjoyable!

My advice: Take breaks and keep checking the alignment throughout. I also found it very helpful to lay everything out on the floor beforehand and go through the assembly sequence.

You’ve got this! It’s worth sticking with it – the result is very satisfying!

I think that’s very valuable advice, thank you!

I am currently still in the planning phase and wanted to ask if anyone has experience with "installation in older buildings with uneven floors and walls."

Do I need to pay attention to specific materials or techniques to make sure the kitchen units are level and stable? How did you compensate for unevenness without losing too much time?

Yes, this is a common challenge in older buildings. My recommendation:

- Use adjustable leveling feet under the base cabinets that can compensate for larger height differences.
- Use mounting rails for wall attachment; these can elegantly compensate for unevenness with suitable spacers.
- If the wall is very uneven, leveling panels (e.g., thin MDF boards) can help achieve a straight surface.
- It’s best to use a laser level for very precise work.
- For extreme unevenness, consider smoothing the wall with filler compound – this is more labor-intensive but ensures long-term stability.

A small tip: regularly check the distance and height between cabinets during installation. A measuring tape and spirit level from the planning stage will become your best friends.
