Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of an Ikea Metod kitchen unit in my new apartment. To work as efficiently and accurately as possible, I have a question here: How can I optimize the installation of Ikea Metod kitchen units?

I am especially interested in tips for preparation, the right tools, potential pitfalls when assembling the base cabinets, as well as advice on correctly leveling and securing the modules to the wall and floor.

Does anyone have experience with special techniques that save time and significantly improve the results? What sequence has proven effective? And how can I avoid damage to the cabinets or the wall?

I look forward to your well-founded advice, technical guidance, and any practical recommendations that can make the installation easier and more sustainable.

A good starting point for assembling Ikea Metod kitchen units is careful planning and preparation:

- Measure the wall multiple times and note any irregularities, as these will need to be leveled.
- Sort all parts in advance and check that all required fixings are available.
- Assembly sequence: start with the base cabinets, align them precisely, and connect them before moving on to the wall cabinets.
- For alignment, it is recommended to use a spirit level and, if necessary, a mounting aid to ensure even spacing along the wall.

It is best to use a cordless drill with torque control to avoid overtightening screws.

Avoid assembling the cabinets "blindly," as inaccuracies here can later cause problems when fitting countertops or fronts.

The order: Start by installing the base cabinets, align them precisely, and then connect them to each other,

This is an important tip, and I would like to add a brief step-by-step explanation:

- Place all cabinets on the floor in their planned positions to check the sequence.
- First, attach all the adjustable legs and set them on a flat surface.
- Then, level each base cabinet using a spirit level; the legs are adjustable and used to compensate for uneven floors.
- After that, connect the individual cabinets with the supplied connector screws to prevent them from shifting against each other.
- Finally, secure the entire assembly to the wall, but wait to tighten the internal cabinet screws until after the last final check.

Common mistake: Tightening the connector screws on the base cabinets too early and too firmly before everything is perfectly aligned. This makes later adjustments very difficult.

Make sure the wall and floor are level. For slanted walls, use suitable shimming plates or battens.

Use the appropriate anchors for wall mounting, depending on the wall material. Adjustments later on can be difficult.

Thanks for the tip! Is there an optimal sequence when installing the cabinet backs? Some cabinets have back panels, others have slots for the countertop. I’m wondering whether it’s better to fully attach the backs before or after assembling the cabinets?

The back panels of Ikea Metod kitchen base units should ideally be installed only after the final alignment of the cabinets, as installing them earlier can make adjustments more difficult.

Procedure:

- Position the cabinets and loosely connect them to each other.
- Align everything using a spirit level and possibly a long straight edge.
- Then secure the cabinets to the wall.
- Only after that, attach the back panels, as they provide additional stability.

This prevents the fixed back panels from blocking fine adjustments.
