Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my kitchen using IKEA Metod corner cabinets and have encountered some challenges with designing the corner units. Specifically, I want to optimize the construction of IKEA Metod corner cabinets to maximize storage space without compromising usability and access to the interior components.

Are there any established methods or installation modifications that help avoid wasted space in the corner? How do you handle the integration of corner cabinets with carousel/rotating shelves or pull-out drawers? Also, what tips do you have regarding interior fittings and organization systems to prevent constantly searching for items later on?

I appreciate any specific experiences, technical advice, or creative solutions that can help with assembly and planning. Thank you in advance!

The issue of dead corners is indeed a major challenge with all corner cabinet solutions, whether Metod or other systems.

I would recommend not relying automatically on the classic rotating carousels, even though they are well known. They save space and at least make parts of the corner accessible, but in practice, you often still lose storage capacity because access is not very convenient.

A better approach might be to consider so-called swing-out pull-outs or semi-enclosed corner solutions, which make almost the entire storage space usable. However, this usually requires more modifications or additional fittings, possibly more expensive components than the IKEA standard setup.

In practice: If you insist on using an IKEA-based build, check the possibility to organize the inner compartment with modular boxes and supplement with storage systems that can be hung inside, so you don’t lose track when accessing. What have been your experiences with the standard rotating carousels so far?

You’re bringing up a very important point! I also have IKEA Metod corner cabinets at home, and I felt the same way: a lazy Susan is nice, but it always takes some fiddling to get the right compartment turned out. 😅

My advice would be to really work the corner with different levels or sections, so you don’t end up gathering everything in one large, hard-to-see carousel. Sorting bags, baskets, or small boxes help a lot to prevent losing things in the back and keep everything neatly organized.

It’s best to plan ahead before installation which items you want to store—this way you can organize the inside purposefully. I also like practical inner drawers that allow you to actually pull things forward. That way cooking stays fun and nothing gets tossed out because you can’t find it! 🍳👌

To optimize the planning of corner cabinets, I recommend the following approach:

- Only use the so-called "Blind Corner" module from IKEA if there is no other option. It offers limited accessibility.
- If possible, choose the "Magic Corner" option or similar swing-out solutions instead, as they provide more storage space and easier access.
- Plan the interior with a flexible organization system, ideally a combination of pull-out drawers and adjustable shelves.
- Be sure to allow enough clearance for the doors and drawers to open fully, so that they do not become a tripping hazard in everyday use.

In my kitchen with the Metod system, I specifically focused on these points and was able to maximize storage while significantly improving accessibility.

Brief and to the point:

- Use a revolving carousel only if you need little storage space.
- Pull-out shelves with swivel function are better for space and organization.
- Add interior fittings with boxes and pull-outs.
- Consider the door opening, otherwise everything gets blocked.

This is how it works.
