Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my kitchen using Ikea Metod cabinets and intend to integrate several built-in appliances such as an oven, dishwasher, and microwave. I’m wondering how to best optimize the construction of the Metod cabinets to ensure everything remains stable, functional, and as easy to maintain as possible.

Specifically, I’m interested in how you assemble the cabinets around the appliances, what sequence you would recommend, which details to pay attention to during installation (e.g., ventilation, fastening, accessibility of connections), and if there are any special installation tips for a neat and durable integration.

It would be great if you could also share any experiences with combining different appliances within one cabinet, for example an oven plus warming drawer or microwave plus refrigerator in a tight space.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

It’s better to install the microwave higher up for improved ventilation and easier access.

That’s exactly right. Microwaves release heat upwards, so this prevents damage to the rear ventilation openings of other appliances.

installing a cover plate or heat shield to avoid heat damage to the devices above.

Especially with an oven above a warming drawer, using a heat shield made of heat-resistant material is recommended to extend the lifespan.

Thank you for all the valuable input! You have clearly shown me the importance of ventilation, secure installation, and accessibility of the connections.

I will measure the appliances again carefully and see how I can maintain the required ventilation clearances. The advice regarding heat protection for the oven and warming drawer is also very helpful.

How do you usually handle the panels? Do you use standard fronts from Ikea, or do you customize them yourself? It seems to me that this can sometimes be challenging, especially when combining appliances from different manufacturers.

It’s hard to give a general rule, but I recommend:

- Use standard fronts whenever possible to ensure compatibility and a consistent appearance.
- For uneven appliance sizes, you can customize fronts or fill gaps with suitable panels.
- Often, a continuous panel above or below appliances helps create a uniform look.

It’s especially important to pay attention to dimensional accuracy, as uneven gaps can quickly look unattractive.

Freshly installed, I can only say: Ikea standard fronts are often the best compromise. I only make adjustments when there is absolutely no other option.

Fascias are a matter of personal taste, but what’s important is that they have proper fixing points. Ikea mounting kits are generally recommended for this purpose.

Very good, thank you. To summarize: I will work with a sturdy carcass, install the heaviest appliances (oven) first, allow ventilation distances, keep connections easily accessible, and install heat protection between appliances if necessary. Mainly use standard Ikea fronts, and use filler panels where space is tight.

If anyone has additional tips on screw selection or assembly techniques for Metod cabinets with appliances, I would still appreciate advice.
