Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my large kitchen and am focusing on the Ikea Metod tall cabinets. Since the cabinets are quite tall, I want to optimize the available storage space to accommodate both large household items and smaller kitchen utensils efficiently. I am especially interested in which layout options, accessories, or additional systems you would recommend to make the best use of the volume and improve organization.

So far, I have considered rolling internal drawers and adjustable shelves, but I am unsure if this alone is the best solution or if there are other, perhaps less obvious tips and tricks. Are there specific shelves, adjustment techniques, or even organizational principles that have proven particularly effective when using Metod tall cabinets in large kitchens?

Thanks in advance for your experiences and recommendations!

I use custom pull-out drawers in my Metod tall cabinets. Roll-out trays on rails help maximize storage space effectively. Shelves should be adjustable to allow easy storage of taller items.

The best results are achieved through a combination of pull-out drawers, shelves at varying heights, and interior organizers. For example, shelves with built-in dividers are useful for systematically storing smaller items. It is important to measure the interior cabinet heights accurately to minimize unused space.

Additionally, I recommend equipping the lower section with pull-out drawers, which are especially practical for heavy appliances such as kitchen machines or pots. For large kitchens, cabinets should also be divided based on frequency of use – frequently used items in easily accessible areas, and rarely used ones placed either at the top or bottom.

I always find it challenging to balance storage capacity and accessibility, especially with tall cupboards. What helps me a lot is organizing items not only by surface space but also by meaningful categories—such as baking supplies, pantry items, or cooking utensils. This way, the cupboard feels less cluttered, and I don’t lose track of what’s inside.

I’ve also noticed that using a few baskets or storage boxes can greatly improve the organization of the storage space. Sometimes it also helps to let go of the idea that everything needs to be immediately accessible and instead deliberately create a separate area for infrequently used items.

That’s a very good approach, thank you! In my kitchen, I have several tall cabinets side by side. I plan to use some mainly as pantry cabinets and others more for appliances. Are there useful organizers or shelving systems for pantry cabinets that work especially well with the depth of Metod tall cabinets? I’m concerned that items at the back might get lost or be hard to find.

The challenge with deep tall cabinets is actually making the space at the back accessible. Here, I would recommend using fully extendable baskets or drawers that can be pulled out completely. This way, you can see everything at the back immediately, and the storage space is used efficiently.

Another tip is to install shelf dividers or modular inserts that divide the cabinet into manageable sections and prevent food items or appliances from shifting. Also very helpful are rotating Lazy Susan inserts, which especially improve access in deep corners.
